Speaking to an audience of young entrepreneurs gathered in New York for an UN General Assembly high-level side event on Youth Entrepreneurship, the UN Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth, Ahmad Alhendawi, announced the new Youth Gateway | Global Youth Partnership for the Sustainable Development Goals.
In innovative ways the Youth Gateway will facilitate connecting young people with opportunities to take action for contributing to global development, locally and internationally, and also link together education, implementation and evaluation of the SDGs by youth and for youth.
A pioneering partnership and interactive platform, the Youth Gateway | Global Youth Partnership for the Sustainable Development Goals is co-convened by the Office of the United Nations Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth and the Major Group on Children and Youth.

Tuesday’s high-level side event, “Innovative Solutions: Youth Entrepreneurship for Sustainable Development” was co-hosted by the Office of the UN Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth and the Permanent Mission of the Netherlands to the United Nations.
Her Majesty, Queen Maxima of the Netherlands, echoed her work as the UN Secretary-Generals’ Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development when she talked about the importance of youth entrepreneurship to the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.

Lilianne Ploumen, Netherlands’ Minister for Foreign Trade and Development, joined the gathering of young entrepreneurs and stressed the potential of youth.

Thione Niang, co-founder of “Akon Lighting Africa”, spoke to the audience in New York, and to the audience watching online on a UN Web TV Live Stream, of the need for energy for all and the lack of opportunity in Africa because of shortages in access.
