Today the UN Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth Ahmad Alhendawi addressed the 2015 AIESEC International Congress. More than 800 delegates from 117 AIESEC member countries and territories and over 5,000 virtual participants are attending this year’s Congress, which mainly focuses on strategizing and co-creating the organization’s mid-term strategy and vision through 2020. The Congress brings together representatives of youth, governments, business leaders, entrepreneurs, global trailblazers, and the United Nations.

In his remarks, Alhendawi noted that this gathering is taking place at an exciting time for the international community. He highlighted the importance of aligning AIESEC’s 2020 vision with the sustainable development agenda. “Youth leadership and ownership is critical for the successful delivery of the Sustainable Development Goals,” noted Alhendawi. He encouraged the young leaders from AIESEC to drive the SDG agenda in their communities, regions and the world.

“United Nations had long recognized the efforts of AIESEC in promoting peace and development through professional and cultural exchange,” said the Envoy on Youth, adding that OSGEY is also pleased to host the AIESEC Leaders Strategic Forum later in the year, which will flesh out the action plan for the implementation of the 2020 strategy.

AIESEC is one of the world’s largest youth-led organization existing for over 60 years with a single mission– peace and fulfillment of humankind’s potential. AIESEC provides 50,000 young people from over 127 countries and territories with a platform to explore and develop their leadership potential.

2015 AIESEC International Congress started its work on 22 August and will conclude on August 29.
