Last Friday, the United Nations Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth, Ahmad Alhendawi, met with the representatives of the Global Indigenous Youth Caucus who are attending the 14th Session of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, taking place at the UN last week and this week.
“I much enjoyed the opportunity to engage with them and learn about their experiences, needs and aspirations. We spoke about the importance of reflecting issues that are important to indigenous youth in the Permanent Forum’s work, but also about the need to mainstream indigenous voices in the youth efforts that feed into other UN processes and mechanisms. I was impressed by their energy and enthusiasm and inspired by their commitment and leadership. I look forward to continue to strengthen our engagement with the Caucus and commit myself to support facilitating more spaces to allow the voices of indigenous youth to be heard.”
