The WSIS Stocktaking 2008 Report is an effective tool for fostering development of the information society. It is an update on the activities undertaken by governments, business, civil society and other organizations aimed at the achievement of the objectives and targets of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) from end 2005 until mid 2008.

Society 2005
The Second Phase of the World Summit
on the Information Society was held in Tunis from November
16 to 18, 2005. Advocacy for women's improved access to ICT,
and attention to gender perspectives in the development and
use of ICT has significantly increased in the United Nations
in the context of preparations for the World Summit on the
