Plan your visit
The Headquarters of the United Nations is located in New York City, along the East River. When you pass through the gates of the United Nations visitors’ entrance, you enter an international territory. This 18-acre site does not belong to just one country, but to all countries that have joined the Organization; currently, the United Nations has 193 Member States.
The Visitor Centre has been relocated from the General Assembly Building to the Dag Hammarskjöld Library Building (42nd Street & 1st Avenue) effective 5 June 2013. The visitors' gate (for weekday access) is temporarily located on 47th Street and 1st Avenue until further notice. We expect to be at this temporary location until 2015. Due to new security procedures, public walk-up entry onto the premises is no longer allowed on weekdays. Tickets for tours are only available online and must be purchased in advance in order to enter the premise. Although we currently do not offer tours on weekends, the Visitor Centre is open to the public (no ticket required Saturday-Sunday)
- Only visitors having purchased a UN guided tour ticket online will be allowed to access the Visitor Centre, Monday - Friday (enter at 47th Street).
- Free walk-in public access on Saturdays and Sundays (enter at 43rd Street).
