UNESCO holds conference in Paris about terrorism and the media

Today (20 November 2018) UNESCO and the association 13onze15 are organizing a conference entitled "Terrorism and the media".

In order to better understand the ethical dilemmas governing the journalistic treatment of terrorism and engage in dialogue with media professionals on how to provide an appropriate and proportionate response, journalists, members of regulatory bodies, researchers and representatives of victims' associations will share their experiences and provide insights.

To what extent can media coverage play the part of those who sow fear? How to exercise freedom of information on terrorism while respecting the victims and without hindering the work of the intervention services? What are the challenges faced by the journalists? What relation should journalists have with the authorities?
