Government Assistance to Victims
Chapter 4 entitled “Compensation of the Damage Caused as a Result of an Act of Terrorism and Social Rehabilitation of Aggrieved Persons” of the Law of the Republic of Armenia on the "FIGHT AGAINST TERRORISM" /adopted by the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia on 22 March 2005/ regulates social, legal, psychological, medical and other types of assistance to the victims of the terrorist attacks.
In particular, the article 17 /“Social Rehabilitation of Persons Aggrieved as a Result of an Act of Terrorism”/ of the Law stipulates, that “Provision of services for social rehabilitation of persons aggrieved as a result of an act of terrorism shall be carried out at the expense of the State Budget of the Republic of Armenia. The procedure for providing legal, psychological, medical and other types of assistance to such persons shall be established by the Government of the Republic of Armenia”.
The compensation for the damage caused to individuals and legal entities during terrorist attacks is provided by Article 16 /"Compensation of the Damage Caused by an Act of Terrorism"/ of the Law, which stipulates that "Compensation of the damage caused to natural and legal persons as a result of an act of terrorism shall be carried out at the expense of the State Budget of the Republic of Armenia, in the amounts and in the manner prescribed by the civil legislation of the Republic of Armenia."
Legal Resources available to Victims
The CRIMINAL PROCEDURE CODE of the Republic of Armenia doesn’t distinguish victims of terrorism from victims of other crimes. Meanwhile, Article 59 /“The Rights and Obligations of the Injured”/ of the Code stipulates the above-mentioned mechanism. Collaboration with other Organisations
In assisting victims of terrorism, Police of the Republic of Armenia collaborates with Media through the Department of Public Relations and Information of the Police.
Guided by the Article 6 /International cooperation of the Republic of Armenia in the field of the fight against terrorism/of the Law of the Republic of Armenia on the “FIGHT AGAINST TERRORISM”, the Republic of Armenia cooperates with foreign countries, as well as international organizations fighting against terrorism on the basis of the international treaties of the Republic of Armenia.
