Overview<\/h2><\/span>

The Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for West Asia (UN-ESCWA) will jointly organise the United Nations Capacity Building Workshop on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for Staff of the State of Palestine on 27-28 April 2017 in Beirut, Lebanon. The theme of the Workshop is \u201cPartnerships for Empowering a Future State of Palestine: Sustainable Development Goal 17 and South-South and Triangular Cooperation\u201d.<\/p>\n

The overall objective of the Workshop is to develop the capacity and expertise of the Palestinian Government in respect to implementation of the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development (Agenda 2030).<\/p>\n

More specifically, the Workshop will inter alia aim to establish a common understanding of the practice of South-South and Triangular Cooperation (SS&TC) as an important modality for attaining the SDGs in Palestine. It will equip participants with practical tools and methods needed to comprehend the challenges and opportunities inherent in SS&TC and better understand the roles of different stakeholders in order to mobilize effective partnerships. The Workshop will also highlight the catalytic role that the United Nations, in particular its regional commissions such as UN-ESCWA, can play in supporting Palestine\u2019s efforts to build SS&TC partnerships in achieving the SDGs.<\/p>\n

The Programme will consist of multiple interactive training modules, led by subject matter experts from around the world, including the Global South. Participants and experts will share experiences and explore practical ways of enhancing political, economic, social, and technical collaboration with a view to mobilizing effective SS&TC partnerships. Upon successful completion of the Programme, participants will (i) understand the foundations and modalities of SS&TC in the context of the Agenda 2030 as it applies to Palestine; (ii) become familiar with effective SS&TC tools and methods; and (iii) be able to effectively apply SS&TC tools to advance Palestine\u2019s national development priorities in the context of implementing Agenda 2030.<\/p>\n

The two-day event, conducted in the form of interactive sessions led by experts in the respective fields, will be held in closed-door format and under Chatham House Rule.<\/p>\n<\/div>
