It cannot take responsibility for the accuracy of the information.<\/span><\/div><button style=\"color:#a0a0a0;border-color:#a0a0a0;\" type=\"button\" class=\"close toggle-alert\" data-dismiss=\"alert\" aria-label=\"Close\">&times;<\/button><\/div><div class=\"fusion-clearfix\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-layout-column fusion_builder_column fusion-builder-column-2 fusion_builder_column_1_1 1_1 fusion-one-full fusion-column-first fusion-column-last\" style=\"--awb-bg-size:cover;\"><div class=\"fusion-column-wrapper fusion-flex-column-wrapper-legacy\"><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-1\"><p><strong>12 March 2020<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Middle East<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On 12 March, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.btselem.org\/press_releases\/20200312_ag_objection_to_icc_jurisdiction_in_palestine_divorced_from_reality\">B\u2019Tselem<\/a> published a position paper refuting the conclusion of Israeli Attorney General Mandelblit, the highest legal authority in Israel\u2019s executive branch, that the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) has no jurisdiction to investigate suspected war crimes by Israel. B\u2019Tselem\u2019s analysis found the Attorney General\u2019s main arguments and sources had relied on \u201cpartial quotes taken out of context, flouted\u201d and \u201coverlooked the international community\u2019s positions on Israel\u2019s policy\u201d in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt). B\u2019Tselem argued that since Palestine joined the Rome Statute, it has the right to demand an investigation into the situation there.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 11 March, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.addameer.org\/sites\/default\/files\/publications\/newsletter_february_.pdf\">Addameer \u2013 Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association<\/a> issued its monthly newsletter highlighting Israeli violations for the month of February including the political detention of Palestinian students and cases of torture, as well as Palestinian human rights organizations\u2019 contributions in the 43rd regular session of the UN Human Rights Council.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 10 March, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alhaq.org\/advocacy\/16569.html\">Al-Haq<\/a> issued a press release on the health conditions in the oPt and the declaration of the state of emergency by the Palestinian Ministry of Health. Al-Haq called for all official and unofficial national efforts to be coordinated to tackle the spread of COVID-19 and for the establishment of a medical team, in cooperation with the World Health Organization (WHO), across Palestinian governorates to ensure adherence to internationally recognized quality standards in dealing with infected persons and suspected cases.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 10 March, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.alhaq.org\/advocacy\/16582.html\">Palestinian, regional, and international human rights groups and civil society organizations<\/a> engaged in a social media campaign to call for the opening of an investigation by the ICC into the situation in Palestine in order to ensure justice and accountability for Palestinian victims of suspected war crimes and crimes against humanity in the oPt.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 10 March, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.btselem.org\/settler_violence_updates\">B\u2019Tselem<\/a> launched a new blog \u201cState-Backed Settler Violence\u201d to convey the frequency and severity of settler violence against Palestinians. The blog provides monthly updates giving voice to people exposed to acts of violence.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 10 March, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.adalah.org\/en\/content\/view\/9916\">Adalah \u2013 The Legal Centre for Arab Minority Rights in Israel<\/a> issued a press release denouncing Israel\u2019s failure to \u201cprovide real-time coronavirus updates in Arabic for Palestinian citizens.\u201d Adalah sent an urgent letter to Israeli Health Minister demanding that the ministry provide all real-time coronavirus-related updates and information also to the Arabic-speaking public on all its communication platforms, social media and smartphone apps, considering that the Palestinian citizens of Israel constitute approximately 20 percent of the country\u2019s total population.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 9 March, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hamoked.org\/Document.aspx?dID=Updates2136\">Hamoked \u2013 Centre for the Defense of the Individual<\/a> issued a report on the status of Palestinians in administrative detention, stating that 437 Palestinians are in administrative detention in East Jerusalem and the West Bank, including 2 minors, with 103 of them having been detained without charge or trial for over a year. Hamoked stated that administrative detention constituted \u201ca draconian violation of a person\u2019s rights to liberty and due process.\u201d The NGO also criticized the fact that administrative detention orders for Palestinians by Israel are based on \u201cclassified material\u201d, which the detainee has no way to refute.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 5 March, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.addameer.org\/publications\/international-women%E2%80%99s-day-%E2%80%A6-43-palestinian-women-detention\">Addameer \u2013 Prisoner Support and Human Rights Association<\/a> issued a report on the occasion of International Women\u2019s Day on the detention of Palestinian women in Israeli prisons and detention centers. Addameer gave an overview of the detention of key female human rights defenders and touched on the targeting of female university students, torture and ill-treatment against female prisoners, the situation of women under administrative detention and the issue of medical negligence against female prisoners and the applicability of the recommendations of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>Europe<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On 11 March, <a href=\"https:\/\/lphr.org.uk\/latest-news\/lphr-2019-year-in-review-child-rights-bulletin\/\">Lawyers for Palestinian Human Rights (LPHR)<\/a> issued the \u201c2019 Year in Review Child Rights Bulletin\u201d. The report incorporates key incidents involving Palestinian children killed and injured by Israeli forces in the OPT from 1 October to 31 December. The report also explores cases of child victims of settler violence, detention, demolitions and displacement, and interference against education.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>North America<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On 7 April, <a href=\"https:\/\/fmep.org\/event\/sadat-forum-trumps-middle-east-plan-now-what\/\">The Anwar Sadat Chair for Peace and Development, the College of Behavioural and Social Sciences, and the Project on Middle East Political Science at George Washington University<\/a> will host \u201cThe Sadat Forum\u201d on \u201cTrump\u2019s Middle East Plan: Now What?\u201d with Tamara Cofman Wittes (Brookings Institution), Daniel Kurtzer (Princeton University), Khaled Elgindy (Middle East Institute) and Shibley Telhami (University of Maryland).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 25 March, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thejerusalemfund.org\/events\/upcoming\/what-use-is-a-piece-of-paper-against-a-tank-palestinian-authority-land-titling-and-the-future-of-territory-in-the-west-bank\">The Jerusalem Fund for Education &amp; Community Development<\/a> will host Palestinian Studies Postdoctoral Research Associate at Brown University Paul Kohlbry for a discussion on \u201cPalestinian Authority Land Titling and the Future of Territory in the West Bank\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>United Nations<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On 8 March, <a href=\"https:\/\/unsco.unmissions.org\/sites\/default\/files\/rc_statement_on_international_womens_day_-_8_march_2020_.pdf\">UN Resident Coordinator in the Occupied Palestinian Territory Jamie McGoldrick<\/a> issued a statement on the occasion of International Women\u2019s Day 2020. He states that the United Nations stands ready to assist the Palestinian people in the implementation and monitoring of its State obligations and to continue to support and assist Palestinian women and girls across a broad range of areas in line with the SDGs, in particular as they relate to gender equality. He added that the year 2020 is a pivotal year for joint accelerated efforts for the promotion, protection and full realization of women and girls\u2019 rights, as it marks 25 years since the adoption of Beijing declaration and Platform for Action and 10 years since the adoption of Security Council Resolution 1325 (2000).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-2\"><p><em>This newsletter informs about recent and upcoming activities of Civil Society Organizations affiliated with the United Nations Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People.
