Civil society was monitoring the process, he added, hoping that it would lead to an end to the closure imposed on the Gaza Strip.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 27 September,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.badil.org\/en\/publication\/press-releases\/86-2017\/4817-pr-en-270917-49.html\">Badil<\/a>warned that the implementation of Israeli plans for the Palestinian Bedouin villages of Khan al-Ahmar and Susiya in the West Bank would constitute forcible population transfer amounting to a war crime. Further information on the case is available on the websites of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.btselem.org\/area_c\/khan_al_ahmar\">B\u2019Tselem<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jahalin.org\/category\/news\/\">Jahalin Solidarity<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Following the three death sentences issued on 26 September by a court in Gaza,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.mezan.org\/en\/post\/22081\/Three+Men+Sentenced+to+Death+in+Gaza\">Al Mezan<\/a>Center for Human Rights called for an immediate halt to the death penalty and the unification of the Palestinian judicial system on the basis of human rights principles.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>North America<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/as.nyu.edu\/content\/nyu-as\/as\/research-centers\/neareaststudies.html\">New York University<\/a>\u2019s Hagop Kevorkian Centre for Near East Studies is inviting to a lecture by Prof. Shira Robinson\u00a0<em>\u201cPast as Present: Reflections on the 70<sup>th<\/sup>Anniversary of 1948\u201d<\/em>\u00a0on 10 October.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>From 20 to 29 October, the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bostonpalestinefilmfest.org\/\">Boston Palestine Film Festival<\/a>is scheduled to take place, featuring cinema, narratives and culture.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The 7<sup>th<\/sup><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dcpfaf.org\/\">DC Palestinian Film &amp; Arts Festival<\/a>\u00a0(5 to 8 October) will offer films, storytelling and\u00a0<em>dabke<\/em>\u00a0dance. Prior to that, on 2 October a special free Palestinian showcase will take place on the Kennedy Center\u2019s Millennium Stage in Washington, D.C.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 5 October, Member of the Knesset Haneen Zoabi (Joint List) will make a presentation at The Palestine Center of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.thejerusalemfund.org\/events\/upcoming\/save-date-presentation-mk-haneen-al-zoubi\">The Jerusalem Fund<\/a>in Washington, D.C.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 2 October, Yousef Munayyer, executive director of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/endthe0ccupation\/\">US Campaign for Palestinian Rights<\/a>,\u00a0will speak in Washington, D.C., with Issa Amro, coordinator of the Hebron-based nonviolent action group Youth against Settlements, on \u201c<em>Palestine to Diaspora: The Movement for Palestinian Liberation<\/em>\u201d. On 27 September,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.haaretz.com\/middle-east-news\/palestinians\/1.814892\">Issa Amro<\/a>met with Members of the US Congress and had an Op-Ed article published in\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/forward.com\/opinion\/383573\/israel-has-created-a-palestinian-ghetto-in-hebron-and-it-has-nothing-to-do\/\">The Forward<\/a>\u00a0<em>\u201cIsrael has Created a Palestinian Ghetto in Hebron\u201d<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>As part of a new campaign\u00a0<em>\u201cPeace in Palestine\u201d<\/em>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ppen-cjpme.nationbuilder.com\/about\">Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East<\/a>(CJPME) is collecting signatures for a Parliamentary ePetition calling on the Government of Canada to demand, in line with Security Council resolution 2334, the cessation of all settlement activity in the West Bank including East Jerusalem.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>In support of the\u00a0<em>\u201cNo Way to Treat a Child\u201d<\/em>campaign led by Defence for Children International (DCI)-Palestine, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mccottawaoffice.wordpress.com\/2017\/09\/27\/no-way-to-treat-a-child\/\">Mennonite Central Committee<\/a>(MCC) Ottawa Office is inviting citizens to sign a petition calling on the Government of Canada to promote greater respect for human rights, child protection and accountability.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>Europe<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Events to mark the centenary of the Balfour Declaration will be hosted in London on 31 October by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.balfourproject.org\/\">Balfour Project<\/a>(\u201c<em>Britain\u2019s Broken Promise: Time for a New Approach<\/em>\u201d) and on 7 October by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.co.uk\/e\/palestine-britain-the-balfour-declaration-tickets-36745476710?aff=memsite\">Middle East Monitor<\/a>\u00a0(\u201c<em>Palestine, Britain &amp; the Balfour Declaration 100 Years On<\/em>\u201d).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><u>United Nations<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>From 5 to 6 October, the UN Department of Public Information (DPI) will hold its annual International\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.unis.unvienna.org\/unis\/en\/pressrels\/2017\/unisma181.html\">Media Seminar on Peace in the Middle East<\/a>under the theme\u00a0<em>\u201cThe question of Palestine: media narratives and public perspectives\u201d<\/em>\u00a0in Vienna.\u00a0The event is organized in cooperation with the Bruno Kreisky Forum for International Dialogue, with the support of the United Nations Information Service in Vienna. Civil society organizations are welcome to register at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/bit.ly\/2wgSGsY\">http:\/\/bit.ly\/2wgSGsY<\/a>\u00a0(the registration deadline will be extended).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Reporting on its attendance of the 336<sup>th<\/sup>session of the UN\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ohchr.org\/EN\/HRBodies\/HRC\/RegularSessions\/Session36\/Pages\/36RegularSession.aspx\">Human Rights Council<\/a>\u00a0(11 to 29 September) in Geneva,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.alhaq.org\/advocacy\/targets\/united-nations\/1144-al-haq-attends-36th-session-of-the-un-human-rights-council\">Al Haq<\/a>\u00a0expressed concern about US and EU absence in the General Debate under the Council\u2019s agenda item seven\u00a0<em>\u201cHuman rights situation in Palestine and other occupied Arab territories\u201d<\/em>.
