In-kind food assistance will be adjusted in line with the expansion of cash-based assistance, market capacity, and the availability of stocks. As a result, from January, a substantial portion of the beneficiaries will start to receive monthly digital transfers via e-wallets and transition off in-kind general food assistance in February. This approach is intended to support the gradual recovery of local markets and enable households to improve, choice and dietary diversity.<\/li>\n<li>Bread production will continue at levels sufficient to meet immediate needs, while supporting a transition away from fully subsidized bakeries towards a market-based bakery system with WFP shifting to an enabling role. To this end, additional bakeries are in the process of being contracted to improve bread availability, market competition and geographical coverage.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>SITUATION UPDATE<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Despite improved food access, the humanitarian situation in Gaza remains severe with displaced families facing acute needs for shelter, a balanced diet, health services, water, and heating amid winter conditions. Reports indicate children and infants have died from hypothermia in inadequate displacement sites, highlighting the extreme living conditions faced by vulnerable populations.<\/li>\n<li>Humanitarian convoys and aid operations persevere despite continued access bottlenecks and logistical difficulties which delay and constrain response efforts, complicating delivery of food, medical supplies, shelter materials, and winter support.<\/li>\n<li>New registration and licensing restrictions by Israeli authorities on international NGOs have reduced overall operational capacity in Gaza, disrupting the delivery of lifesaving assistance across multiple sectors and increasing pressure on remaining humanitarian responders. For WFP, the new requirements may impact up to 20 percent of the nutrition targeted beneficiaries.<\/li>\n<li>WFP continues to secure fuel through suppliers in Egypt and Israel to sustain its operational needs in Gaza amid ongoing fuel sourcing constraints. During the reporting period, WFP received an additional 298,492 litres of fuel, ensuring continuity of critical activities.<\/li>\n<li>Airstrikes, shelling, and gunfire continue across the Gaza Strip, causing casualties. Israeli forces remain deployed in over 50 percent of the territory demarcated by the \u201cYellow Line,\u201d where access to humanitarian facilities, public infrastructure, and agricultural land is restricted or prohibited, alongside ongoing demolitions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>HIGHLIGHTS In 2026, WFP will continue to scale up market-based solutions in Gaza.
