NAKASHIMA Yoichi, H.E. Ambassador for the Palestinian Affairs \/\u00a0Representative of Japan to Palestine, said\u00a0\u201cThis support embodies Japan\u2019s commitment to continue its contribution to supporting Palestinian food security and to reach lasting peace in\u00a0Palestine and its neighbouring country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"EN-GB\">For over ten months now, continued hostilities, destruction, displacement, and hunger have shaped in the Gaza Strip, pushing over two million people to full dependency on humanitarian\u00a0<\/span>assistance.\u00a0The latest Integrated Food Security Phase Classification report findings show that the entire population of Gaza \u2013 2.2 million people \u2013 faces\u00a0high levels of food insecurity,\u00a0with\u00a0around 69 percent of the\u00a0population in Emergency\u00a0and\u00a0Catastrophic levels of food insecurity.\u00a0As the war in Gaza continues, increased violence and movement restrictions have severely\u00a0impacted the economy and daily life in the West Bank,\u00a0leading to\u00a0devastating humanitarian consequences. WFP estimates the escalation of violence in the West Bank could push at least 600,000 people into food insecurity, marking\u00a0a\u00a042.1 percent increase since the beginning of\u00a0the war.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cI am meeting families and parents who struggle to\u00a0secure\u00a0the most basic needs,\u00a0even if\u00a0it just means putting one meal a day on the table.\u00a0This\u00a0assistance is lifesaving; it will help\u00a0families put ready-to-eat food on their tables and have access to a\u00a0key\u00a0staple, bread. We extend our\u00a0profound appreciation to the people of Japan,\u201d says Antoine Renard, Representative and Country Director of WFP Palestine<\/strong>. \u201cThe ongoing support from the Government of Japan is crucial to support efforts at preventing famine and alleviating suffering in Gaza.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"EN-GB\">WFP is providing essential food\u00a0<\/span>assistance to over\u00a01.3 million people across Gaza and the West Bank every month, while simultaneously working to restore and strengthen collapsed food systems. WFP\u2019s food distribution efforts\u00a0extend to\u00a0United Nations shelters, communities, and temporary camps, delivering ready-to-eat meals and free bread or wheat flour to those in need.
