PARIS\/AMMAN, 9 November 2023-<\/strong> “The international humanitarian conference for Gaza\u2019s civilian population\u201d will take place today 9 November 2023 in Paris. Organized at the initiative of the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, the conference primarily aims to mobilize the main players involved in the humanitarian response in the Gaza Strip to imperiously take action to support Palestinian civilians confronted today with an unprecedented and extremely alarming humanitarian crisis. UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini was invited to address the conference to report on the humanitarian situation on the ground, and on the needs of civilians and humanitarian agencies giving them assistance in the Gaza Strip. His presence will also be an opportunity to carry out important discussions with other high-level officials on the political and financial support UNRWA needs from its partners today more than ever to be able to carry out its mandate.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

UNRWA thanks France and its Ministry of Foreign Affairs for this necessary and critical initiative in light of the unprecedented humanitarian crisis\u00a0that The Gaza Strip has been going through for more than a month now. On the occasion of this high-level meeting, UNRWA is advocating with its partners to actively work towards an urgently needed humanitarian ceasefire, and efficient and uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid, critical for civilians across the Gaza Strip.<\/p>\n

The international community must concretely and immediately take action to promote compliance with international humanitarian law and the protection of civilians, humanitarian personnel, and civilian infrastructure across the Gaza Strip.<\/p>\n

As expressed by the United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres at a press conference on November 6: \u201cThe nightmare in Gaza is more than a humanitarian crisis, it is a crisis of humanity\u201d.<\/p>\n
