First and foremost, the United Nations University (UNU) sides with peace. When peace fails, it is imperative that human rights are prioritized and protected. We echo the\u00a0statement by the UN Secretary-General<\/a>: \u201cEven wars have rules. International humanitarian law and human rights law must be respected and upheld.\u201d<\/p>\n All sides of this conflict must do everything possible to ensure that civilians\u2019 access to food, water, fuel, safe shelter and health care is not compromised or blocked.<\/p>\n Sustainable development is impossible without peace.
