\u201cThe impact of Israeli settlement policies on the Palestinian population<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0in Jerusalem\u201d<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Convened by the\u00a0<\/strong>UN Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People (CEIRPP)\u00a0<\/strong>in cooperation with the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)<\/strong><\/p>\n Thursday, 20 July 2023, 10 a.m. \u2013 12 p.m. (NY time)<\/strong><\/p>\n VIRTUAL EVENT<\/strong><\/p>\n Video<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n The Committee, in cooperation with the OIC, will hold the International Conference on the Question of Jerusalem under the theme \u201cThe impact of Israeli settlement policies on the Palestinian population in Jerusalem\u201d\u00a0on 20 July 2023, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. (New York Time), via Zoom<\/strong>. The event will also be livestreamed on UN Web TV.<\/p>\n This year marks the 75th<\/sup>\u00a0anniversary of the Nakba, the forced displacement of Palestinians from their homes and lands around the time of the establishment of the state of Israel in 1948. Since then, the Israeli occupation, through the ongoing dispossession of Palestinians in the occupied territory including East Jerusalem, has prevented the attainment of a just and lasting solution of the Palestinian cause.<\/p>\n The event aims at raising awareness with international audiences \u2013 Member States, civil society, the public and the media about the ongoing Israel\u2019s settlement expansion resulting in human rights violations and demographic changes that continue to threaten the presence of Palestinian Jerusalemites in the City.<\/p>\n The event will consist of an opening session with remarks by the Chair of the Committee, a UN Senior Official, a Senior representative of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation as well as the Deputy Permanent Observer of the State of Palestine.<\/p>\n The panel conversation will include\u00a0Mr. Munir Nuseibah,\u00a0<\/strong>Director of Al-Quds Human Rights Clinic and Community Action Centre, will discuss will\u00a0Best legal practices for Palestinians in Israeli Courts: The cases of Silwan and Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhoods;\u00a0<\/em>Ms. Dalit Baum,\u00a0<\/strong>Co-founder of Who Profits from the Occupation will present the topic of\u00a0Dispossession through bureaucracy in East Jerusalem and Importance of economic activism to counter Israeli settlements policies;\u00a0<\/em>Mr. Josh Ruebner,\u00a0<\/strong>Director of Government Relations at the Institute for Middle East Understanding will offer a perspective on\u00a0Congressional advocacy around the settlements expansion.\u00a0<\/em>Ms. Nur Arafeh,\u00a0<\/strong>Fellow at the Malcom H. Kerr Carnegie Middle East Centre will join as\u00a0Discussant<\/em>\u00a0to enrich the debate. A Question-and-Answer session will follow.<\/p>\n Participants in the Zoom event will consist of the invited panelists, Committee Members\/ Observers and other Member States. Intergovernmental and civil society organizations as well as the public and the media will be invited to follow the live stream via UN Web TV.
