The Committee and the Division for Palestinian Rights of the UN Secretariat provide the information \u201cas is\u201d without warranty of any kind, and do not accept any responsibility or liability for the accuracy, or reliability of the information contained in the websites linked in the newsletter.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>NGO ACTION NEWS<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>28 April 2017<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Global<\/u><\/strong><strong><u>\u00a0<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On 19 April, ahead of <a href=\"https:\/\/bdsmovement.net\/sites\/default\/files\/Letter-FIFA-Council-19-April-2017.pdf\">FIFA<\/a>\u2019s annual congress on 10 and 11 May in Bahrain, over 100 individuals and civil society groups published a letter urging FIFA to insist that the Israel Football Association revoke the affiliation of seven football clubs located in West Bank settlements, or else face suspension from FIFA membership.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Middle East<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In the Gaza Strip, the ICRC is implementing a <a href=\"http:\/\/blogs.icrc.org\/ilot\/2017\/04\/04\/gaza-fun-lessons-that-could-save-a-life\/?utm_source=ICRC+Newsletter+%7C+latest+news+and+jobs&amp;utm_campaign=b6bd5d2a79-April_newsletter_2017_04_26&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_term=0_1b098afca4-b6bd5d2a79-88673945&amp;mc_cid=b6bd5d2a79&amp;mc_eid=35e4e2775e\">Mine Risk Education Programme<\/a> to raise awareness and promote safe behaviour among students and teachers, particularly regarding Explosive Remnants of War.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 26 April, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.altro.co.il\/newsletters\/show\/9941?key=c6b40fbb94cdc1f064547f3068d10b18&amp;value=e3217205f0586b847937383cee5eb6e01d9cf148:1258774\">Ir Amim<\/a> reported that Israeli authorities had resumed construction of the Wall around Al-Wallajeh in the Bethlehem Governorate, further isolating the village from its surroundings through the establishment of a national park and a visitor centre.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>In relation to the ongoing hunger strike by Palestinian prisoners, Addameer published on 25 April a Q&amp;A sheet entitled \u201cGet the Facts on Palestinian Hunger Strikes\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 25 April, <a href=\"http:\/\/gisha.org\/updates\/6246\">Gisha-Legal Centre for Freedom of Movement<\/a> warned that the electricity crisis in Gaza had resulted in reduced water quality, additional untreated sewage pumped into the sea and hospitals being on the brink of stopping essential services.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>In the context of the cancellation of talks between Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu and German Foreign Minister Gabriel on 25 April over the latter\u2019s decision to meet with human rights groups, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.btselem.org\/press_releases\/20170425_firm_resolve_needed\">B\u2019Tselem<\/a> issued a press release and published an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.haaretz.com\/opinion\/.premium-1.785801\">op-ed<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 21 April, over a dozen activists from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.taayush.org\/?p=4841\">Ta\u2019ayush<\/a>, a partnership of Israelis and Palestinians striving together to end the Israeli occupation and to achieve full civil equality through non-violent action, were reportedly attacked by settlers while accompanying Palestinian shepherds in the Jordan Valley. The incident reportedly left three activists wounded.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Europe<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On 25 April, the Palestine Return Centre hosted a discussion: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.co.uk\/e\/the-question-of-jerusalem-occupation-discrimination-and-displacement-tickets-33426672076\">\u201cThe Question of Jerusalem: Occupation, Discrimination and Displacement<\/a>\u201d in London. The event was chaired by Labour MP Mark Hendrick, and featured as speakers Professor Wendy Pullan, from the University of Cambridge, Professor Mary Green from Queen Mary University of London and Kammel Hawwash from the University of Birmingham.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>North America<\/u><\/strong><strong><u>\u00a0<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>From 5 to 10 June, the US Campaign for Palestinian Rights will launch a Week of Action to demand an end to the Israeli occupation that began in 1967.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 29 and 30 April, the <a href=\"http:\/\/whitney.org\/Events\/BasmaAlsharif\">Whitney Museum of American Art<\/a> in New York will be screening \u201cOuroboros\u201d, a film by Basma Alsharif about the Gaza Strip. The screening on the 30<sup>th<\/sup> will be followed by a conversation with the director.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 25 April, the New Israel Fund of Canada held an event in Toronto entitled \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nifcan.org\/our-events\/upcoming\/\">Bans and Borders: An Evening with Israeli Author Dorit Rabinyan<\/a>\u201d. Rabinyan\u2019s work seeks to overcome the divide between Israelis and Palestinians.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 23 April, Theatre Communications Group and Playwrights Canada Press celebrated the recent publication of \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.tcg.org\/Default.aspx?TabID=2063#DoubleExposure\">Double Exposure: Plays of the Jewish and Palestinian Diaspora<\/a>\u201d with a panel discussion followed by a book signing in New York.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 22 April, Actions4Palestine hosted in Toronto a discussion on \u201cCriminalizing Resistance \u2013 A Panel Discussion on Joint Struggle\u201d to mark Palestinian Prisoners\u2019 Day.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 21 April, Americans for Peace Now <a href=\"http:\/\/peacenow.org\/entry.php?id=23687#.WQI2Ifnyvcs\">announced<\/a> that it would cancel its annual Israel Study Tour due to fear that its members might be denied entry under the country\u2019s recent anti-BDS legislation. APN does not support boycotting Israel, but supports boycotting settlements.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/org2.salsalabs.com\/o\/5575\/p\/dia\/action4\/common\/public\/index.sjs?action_KEY=24507\">Churches for Middle East Peace<\/a> has launched a campaign calling on citizens to tell the U.S. Congress: \u201cGaza Needs Electricity and Clean Water\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>United Nations<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>In preparation for the 1 June deadline to apply for <a href=\"http:\/\/csonet.org\/?page=view&amp;nr=393&amp;type=13&amp;menu=14\">consultative status with ECOSOC<\/a>, interested NGOs are invited to an informational webinar on 5 May, from 11:00 to 12:30 (New York time).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>A Q&amp;A entitled \u201cGaza: 20 hours without electricity\u201d is available from the <a href=\"http:\/\/mailchi.mp\/unrwausa\/your-gaza-electricity-crisis-questions-answered?e=00187ba7b0\">UNRWA USA National Committee<\/a><u>.<\/u><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The Palestinian Rights Committee will convene at UN headquarters in New York two events to mark 50 years of the Israeli occupation.
