The Committee and the Division for Palestinian Rights of the UN Secretariat provide the information \u201cas is\u201d without warranty of any kind, and do not accept any responsibility or liability for the accuracy, or reliability of the information contained in the websites linked in the newsletter.<\/strong><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>NGO Action News<br \/>\n<\/strong><strong>06 April 2018<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Middle East<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On 5 April, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.icrc.org\/en\/document\/gaza-troubling-human-toll\">The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC)<\/a> stated its concern over the human toll caused by the violence on the Gaza border with Israel and the high number of casualties and reiterated its full support to the Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) operating in Gaza.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 5 April, <a href=\"https:\/\/prezly.msf.org.uk\/msf-increases-medical-efforts-for-wounded-in-gaza-strip\">M\u00e9decins Sans Fronti\u00e8res (MSF)<\/a> said they had increased their medical response for the wounded in Gaza, and fear more wounded will need care in the days to come.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 5 April, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.map.org.uk\/news\/archive\/post\/820-how-map-is-helping-fix-the-shattered-bones-of-palestinian-protesters-in-gaza\">Medical Aid for Palestinians (MAP)<\/a> launched an emergency call for donations to its Emergency Response in Gaza. MAP is concerned with the type of wounds reported by hospital staff after the \u201cGreat March of Return\u201d. Approximately 758 Palestinians were reported to have suffered gunshot wounds, with the majority having been shot in the legs and requiring complex treatment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 5 April, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.btselem.org\/press_releases\/20180404_refuse_to_shoot_at_unarmed_protestors\">B\u2019Tselem<\/a> launched the campaign \u201cSorry Commander, I cannot shoot.\u201d The campaign will include newspaper advertisements to inform soldiers on the need to refuse to open fire on unarmed demonstrators.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 5 April, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mezan.org\/en\/post\/22650\/Adalah+and+Al+Mezan%3A+Israeli+snipers+documented+%E2%80%98hunting%E2%80%99+Palestinian+protesters+in+Gaza\">Al Mezan Center for Human Rights<\/a> and Adalah sent an urgent letter to the Israeli Attorney General and the Chief Military Advocate General addressing Israeli military violations of both international and Israeli law on the use of deadly live fire on civilians.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 4 April, <a href=\"http:\/\/pchrgaza.org\/en\/?p=10596\">Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR)<\/a> published its 2017 annual report in Gaza. The organization\u2019s 22nd annual report seeks to address human rights and International Humanitarian Law (IHL) violations in the Occupied Palestinian Territory.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 1 April, <a href=\"http:\/\/peacenow.org.il\/en\/netanyahu-stop-escalation-now\">Peace Now<\/a> and other organizations held a protest in Tel Aviv and issued a statement calling on the Israeli government to refrain from any act leading to the escalation of violence.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>North America<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On 13 April, the <a href=\"https:\/\/fmep.org\/event\/jerusalem-annexation-impact-human-rights-us-embassy-move\/\">Foundation for Middle East Peace<\/a> is holding a talk in Washington, D.C., on <em>\u201cJerusalem: Annexation, the impact on human rights, and the US Embassy move\u201d<\/em>. Speakers include Raed Jarrar, Advocacy Director for the Middle East and North Africa at Amnesty International USA, and Zena Agha and Yara Hawari, both Policy Fellows of Al-Shabaka. The speakers will discuss to what extent US policy reflects the \u201crecognition of reality\u201d on the grounds.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 12 April, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newamerica.org\/fellows\/events\/palestine-political-limbo\/\">New America<\/a> is organizing a panel with Al-Shabaka political analysts Zena Agha, Yara Hawari, Nadia Hijab and New America Middle East fellow Zaha Hassan to discuss <em>\u201cPalestine in Political Limbo \u2013 what the loss of the two-state framework means for Palestinians\u201d<\/em>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 12 April, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.palestine.mei.columbia.edu\/cps-events-spring-2018\/2018\/4\/11\/documenting-capital-my-great-grandfathers-archive\">Columbia University Center for Palestine Studies<\/a> will be hosting a talk on \u201c<em>The Right to have rights: Partition, statehood, and self-determination<\/em>,\u201d with Leila Farsakh, chair and associate professor at UMass, Boston. The talk will re-examine the quest for self-determination by Palestinian national groups and how it can be protected in view of present regional and international developments.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 10 April, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thejerusalemfund.org\/events\/upcoming\/re-framing-narrative-palestinian-rights-justice\">Jerusalem Fund<\/a> is hosting an event on <em>\u201cRe-framing the Narrative for Palestinian Rights and Justice\u201d<\/em> with Nadia Hijab, Executive Director of Al-Shabaka, and Zena Agha and Yara Hawari, Policy fellows of Al-Shabaka.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>On 6 April, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thejerusalemfund.org\/events\/upcoming\/gaza-from-the-inside\">Institute for Palestine Studies<\/a>, in partnership with the Palestine Center, organised a presentation by IPS senior fellow Brian Barber \u201c<em>Gaza from Inside<\/em>\u201d.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Europe<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On 4 April, <a href=\"https:\/\/euromedrights.org\/publication\/gaza-strong-european-reaction-urgent\/\">EuroMed Rights<\/a> issued a press release deploring Israel\u2019s illegal use of lethal force against peaceful demonstrators and called for a strong European reaction to allow for an international investigation into Gaza incidents.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>Latin America<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On 8 April, over 400 people will run the International Marathon of Santiago in Chile in support of Palestinian children. The campaign is organized by the <a href=\"http:\/\/palestinalibre.org\/articulo.php?a=68035\">Fundaci\u00f3n Palestina Bel\u00e9n 2000<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><u>United Nations<\/u><\/strong><u>\u00a0<\/u><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>On 5 April, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sg\/en\/content\/sg\/statement\/2018-04-05\/secretary-general%E2%80%99s-statement-situation-gazahttps:\/www.un.org\/sg\/en\/content\/sg\/statement\/2018-04-05\/secretary-general%E2%80%99s-statement-situation-gaza\">UN Secretary-General<\/a> issued a statement on the situation in Gaza, reiterating his call \u201con all concerned to refrain from any act that could lead to further violence\u201d and stressed \u201cthe urgency to accelerate efforts to return to meaningful negotiations\u201d for the two-state solution.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; This newsletter informs about recent and upcoming activities of Civil Society Organizations affiliated with the United Nations Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People.
