OBSERVANCE OF THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF SOLIDARITY WITH THE PALESTINIAN PEOPLE<\/strong><\/p>\n

Monday, 29 November 2021, 10.00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. (NY Time)<\/p>\n

General Assembly Hall<\/p>\n

As customary,\u202fin accordance with General Assembly resolution 32\/40 B of 2 December 1977, the\u00a0International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People\u00a0(Solidarity Day)\u202fwill be\u202fmarked by the\u00a0Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People\u00a0(CEIRPP)\u00a0with\u202fa Special Meeting of the Committee where UN Members States express their solidarity with the Palestinian people, through messages by Heads of States and Government. Similar events are held at UNOG, UNON, UNOV and UNICs around the world.<\/p>\n

This year, the Special Meeting will be held on Monday,\u00a029 November from 10.00 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. (New York time)\u00a0and will be\u00a0livestreamed on UN WebTV.<\/p>\n

The International Day of Solidarity provides an opportunity for the international community to focus its attention on the fact that the question of Palestine remains unresolved and that the Palestinian people are yet to attain their inalienable rights as defined by the General Assembly, namely, the right to self-determination, the right to national independence and sovereignty and the right to return.<\/p>\n

The Special Meeting will be presided by the\u00a0Chair\u00a0of the Committee,\u00a0Ambassador\u00a0Cheikh Niang, who will deliver the opening statement, followed by remarks by the\u00a0President of the General Assembly,\u00a0the\u00a0President of the Security Council\u00a0and by the\u00a0Chef de Cabinet\u00a0speaking on\u00a0behalf of the\u00a0Secretary-General. The\u00a0Permanent Observer of the State of Palestine\u00a0will\u00a0deliver a statement on behalf of Mahmoud Abbas, President of the State of Palestine.\u00a0Video messages of solidarity\u00a0by\u00a0Ms.\u00a0Malala Yousafzai, Nobel Peace Laureate, Ms. Hanan\u00a0Hroub, Palestinian winner of \u201cGlobal Teacher Prize\u201d, Ms. Agn\u00e8s\u00a0Callamard, Amnesty International Secretary-General,\u00a0and H.E. Ms.\u00a0Tarja\u00a0Halonen, former co-chair of the International Women\u2019s Commission for a Just and Sustainable Palestinian-Israeli Peace and former President of Finland,\u00a0will\u00a0be broadcast.\u00a0\u00a0Mr. Mohammed El-Kurd,\u00a0Palestinian activist\u00a0from Sheikh Jarrah\u00a0and\u00a0Representative of civil society, will also deliver a statement.<\/p>\n

The Chair of the\u00a0Special Committee to Investigate Israeli Practices Affecting the Human Rights of the Palestinian\u00a0People and Other Arabs of the Occupied Territories\u00a0and\u00a0representatives of regional organizations (AU,\u00a0LAS,\u00a0OIC,\u00a0NAM)\u00a0will\u00a0deliver statements in the second part of the Meeting.<\/p>\n

This year, the Special Meeting will be held in-person, in the\u00a0General\u00a0Assembly\u00a0Hall, with some\u00a0of the COVID-19 restrictions and limits to access to the UN compound.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Special Meeting\u00a0will be open to the media.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Special Meeting\u00a0will be\u00a0conducted in the six official languages.<\/p>\n

The meeting will be broadcast on\u00a0UN Web TV<\/a><\/p>\n
