Question<\/u>:\u00a0 Thank you, St\u00e9phane.\u00a0 This morning, a large Israeli force entered the Bustan neighbourhood of the city of Silwan, adjacent to Jerusalem, and started destroying the houses, which they had promised to do, about 17\u00a0houses, hosting 20\u00a0families.\u00a0 And Israel is not only destroying these houses; they ask the owners to destroy it, and if they do\u2026 if the Israeli does\u2026 the Israelis do the destruction, then the owners have to pay a penalty, which reaches up to 35,000\u00a0shekels.<\/p>\n

First, do you have any statement?\u00a0 And why you didn\u2019t mention that in the briefing?\u00a0 Such an incident, which Hamas just issued a statement, threatening that, if the destruction go ahead, which has started, it\u2019s true, one commercial\u2026 one store was already destroyed, and the confrontation is going on as we speak between the owner and the Israelis.\u00a0 That\u2026\u00a0 [cross talk]<\/p>\n

Spokesman<\/u>:\u00a0 First of all, I would tell\u2026 well, you\u2019re asking me a question, so I\u2019m going to answer it, is that we\u2019re, obviously, following these recent developments in East Jerusalem, including in the Al-Bustan neighbourhood, extremely closely.\u00a0 The Secretary-General is, indeed, deeply concerned by the continued demolitions.\u00a0 He, once again, reiterates his call to the Israeli authorities to end demolitions and evictions, in line with Israel\u2019s obligations under international humanitarian and international human rights law.<\/p>\n

Question<\/u>:\u00a0 St\u00e9phane, what is the UN can do other than asking the Israeli\u2026 and you know the Israeli will not submit.\u00a0 [outside noise]<\/p>\n

Spokesman<\/u>:\u00a0 Okay.\u00a0 Somebody has their mic open.<\/p>\n

Depends which UN you\u2019re talking about.\u00a0 From the Secretary-General\u2019s standpoint, we continue to report back, as mandated by the Security Council and other organs as to what the situation is on the ground, and we will continue to make our position known to Israel and others in the region.<\/p>\n
