class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>The WHO risk assessment remains very high:\u00a0COVID-19\u00a0infections in the Gaza Strip\u00a0account for\u00a0two-thirds of all\u00a0cases in the oPt,\u00a0with some\u00a0signs of\u00a0reaching a plateau but\u00a0the situation remains\u00a0critical; in the\u00a0West Bank,\u00a0a similar story, with\u00a0new\u00a0infections declining slowly, but\u00a0hospitals still\u00a0struggling<\/li>\n<li>The breakdown of active COVID-19 cases across the oPt is as follows:\u00a0Gaza Strip\u00a0(66.4%),\u00a0followed by\u00a0the West Bank governorates of Nablus\u00a0(12.8%), Jenin\u00a0(3.3%),\u00a0Tulkarm\u00a0(4.9%),\u00a0Ramallah\u00a0(3.5%),\u00a0Hebron\u00a0(2.7%),\u00a0Qalqilya\u00a0(1.4%)\u00a0and Bethlehem\u00a0and Tubas both\u00a0(1.0%)<\/li>\n<li>The overall Case Fatality Rate (CFR)\u00a0across oPt\u00a0remains at\u00a01.1 %.\u00a0The CFR is the proportion of deaths among identified confirmed\u00a0cases<\/li>\n<li>A new B1.351 variant which was initially detected in S. Africa has recently been identified in the West Bank. This is in addition to the virulent B.1.1.7 variant (first identified in the UK) which has been driving cases in both West Bank and Gaza.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Laboratory testing and diagnostics<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>The number of tests conducted in the oPt has decreased by 17% during the reporting period (16 &#8211; 22\u00a0April), with 37,529 tests\u00a0conducted<\/li>\n<li>In the Gaza Strip, an average of\u00a03,174\u00a0tests per day have been conducted over the past week (16 &#8211; 22\u00a0April) with a positivity rate of 36%.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Infection Prevention and Control (IPC), Isolation and Case Management, Operations Support and Logistics\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>In the\u00a0Gaza\u00a0Strip, health authorities have increased\u00a0COVID-19 bed capacity\u00a0to 587 beds, at\u00a0Turkish and European Gaza Hospitals, in addition\u00a0to\u00a0four\u00a0other public hospitals (Shifa, Nasser, Indonesian, and\u00a0Al-Aqsa)<\/li>\n<li>As of\u00a022\u00a0April, the overall occupancy rate of COVID-19 dedicated hospital beds in the\u00a0Gaza Strip is\u00a066%, with 387\u00a0of 587\u00a0beds occupied.\u00a0As of 21\u00a0April,\u00a054\u00a0of the 77 Intensive Care\u00a0Unit (ICU) beds\u00a0were occupied (70%), with\u00a011 patients requiring invasive mechanical\u00a0ventilation<\/li>\n<li>The COVID-19 designated hospitals in the West Bank are still struggling near full capacity,\u00a0with 91% occupancy in ICUs, and ventilator usage at 30%<\/li>\n<li>On 19 April, WHO received shipments of\u00a0reagents distributed by the Infectious Hazards Program (IHP) in Cairo: five sets containing 200 PCR detection kits for COVID-19 and also for influenza were delivered to the PA MoH.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Maintaining Essential Health Services<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout two-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"center\"><img class=\"lazyload\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-orig-src=\"https:\/\/i5.createsend1.com\/ei\/j\/9E\/755\/479\/011637\/csfinal\/tr2-99045106db028a3c.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"275\" \/><\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"center\"><img class=\"lazyload\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-orig-src=\"https:\/\/i6.createsend1.com\/ei\/j\/9E\/755\/479\/011637\/csfinal\/tr-9906db06db028a3c.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"277\" \/><\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>WHO supports ambulance systems and training throughout Gaza\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>WHO is supporting\u00a0local health authorities in Gaza establish an operational room for ambulance management, with IT equipment and uniforms for staff including special visibility vests,\u00a0scrubs\u00a0and shoes.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8211; With thanks to generous\u00a0help from EU Humanitarian AID<\/em><\/p>\n<p>WHO is also supporting the Palestine Red Crescent Society to strengthen the ambulance system across\u00a0Gaza. A unified ambulance dispatch centre with upgraded IT services will be established.<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8211; With thanks to the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) for their generous donation<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>East Jerusalem\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>East Jerusalem\u00a0has\u00a0witnessed a significant improvement in the epidemiological situation,\u00a0with just 46 cases of COVID-19 reported during the last four days. St. Joseph hospital, the main COVID-19 hospital in\u00a0EJ\u00a0closed\u00a0its\u00a0two coronavirus-dedicated units (50-bed\u00a0capacity) on 19 April\u00a02021\u00a0due to decreased numbers of patients. As of 21 April, there are only six patients in Al\u00a0Makased\u00a0hospital (4\u00a0of them\u00a0on ICU) and three patients in Augusta Victoria hospital.\u00a0In all,\u00a0282 people have died in the city since the start of the pandemic last year<\/li>\n<li>The latest vaccination data for residents of EJ show that\u00a0153,000 people have received their\u00a0first dose\u00a0of whom\u00a0130,000 have received\u00a0a\u00a0second dose.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>COVID-19 Vaccination Update<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"center\"><img class=\"lazyload\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-orig-src=\"https:\/\/i7.createsend1.com\/ei\/j\/9E\/755\/479\/011637\/csfinal\/GreenTableAllocated-updated-9900000000079e3c.PNG\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" \/><\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Latest\u00a0vaccine\u00a0arrivals<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>On 29 March, 100,000 Sinopharm vaccines arrived in West Bank as a donation from China:\u00a090,000 for WB, and 10,000\u00a0yet to be delivered to\u00a0Gaza<\/li>\n<li>On 30 March a further 25,000 AstraZeneca\u00a0(AZ)\u00a0vaccines were also delivered to oPt from the Serum Institute of India<\/li>\n<li>On 13 April, 48,000 doses of AZ\u00a0vaccines\u00a0purchased bilaterally by the PA\u00a0MoH\u00a0arrived in the\u00a0oPt, of which 10,000 doses will be delivered to\u00a0Gaza<\/li>\n<li>On 17 April, an additional 72,000 doses of AZ vaccines arrived in the oPt through the COVAX facility: 43,200 doses were delivered to the West Bank on 19 April, while Gaza got 28,800\u00a0doses<\/li>\n<li>PA Health Minister Mai\u00a0Alkaila\u00a0stated on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/who.createsend1.com\/t\/j-l-fftia-l-i\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Voice of Palestine radio<\/a>\u00a0(20 April) that the\u00a0OPt\u00a0has bought 4.5 million doses of the Pfizer and Sputnik V coronavirus vaccines at a cost of $27.5 million.\u00a0Alkaila\u00a0said the vaccines will arrive \u2018soon\u2019.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Vaccination coverage<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>As of 22\u00a0April, 167,711\u00a0people have been vaccinated in total across the oPt: 132,621 in the West Bank, and 35,090 in Gaza. These figures represent around 3.4% of the total Palestinian\u00a0population<\/li>\n<li>Israel completed on 21\u00a0April its &#8216;second phase\u2019 of vaccinating over 100,000 Palestinian workers who received their first doses on 7 March (<a href=\"https:\/\/who.createsend1.com\/t\/j-l-fftia-l-d\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">COGAT.Arabic\u00a0FB<\/a>)<\/li>\n<li>The PA\u00a0MoH has established a committee to oversee the\u00a0prioritisation\u00a0of the COVID-19 vaccination with members drawn from health professionals, academia, UN agencies and civil
