The ten trained nurse instructors are now conducting the training of 200 nurses from various public hospitals in the Gaza Strip.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<h3><strong>WHO preparedness, readiness and response<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>WHO continues to work closely with partners to support Ministry of Health\u2019s (MoH) efforts to respond to the COVID-19\u00a0outbreak.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Coordination,\u202fplanning\u202fand monitoring\u200b<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>The\u00a0West Bank lockdown\u00a0announced on\u00a020\u00a0March\u00a0continues\u00a0until\u00a03 April, with the following amendments:<\/li>\n<li>Restaurants, shops, cafes, businesses, companies and ministries can now operate at 30%\u00a0capacity<\/li>\n<li>Pharmacies and bakeries\u00a0can\u00a0continue to\u00a0operate<\/li>\n<li>No movement between governorates including the city of Jerusalem, except for medical personnel, essential goods and\u00a0food<\/li>\n<li>Governors will decide the exceptions for the opening of any\u00a0sectors<\/li>\n<li>Fines will be issued for breaches of safety\u00a0measures<\/li>\n<li>In\u00a0the Gaza Strip, the following restriction measures\u00a0are\u00a0also\u00a0in place\u00a0in\u00a0light of\u00a0the spike in COVID-19 cases:<\/li>\n<li>Night curfew\u00a0(21:00 \u2013\u00a007:00)\u00a0imposed\u00a0as of Saturday 27\u00a0March,\u00a02021<\/li>\n<li>Weddings and funerals in streets\u00a0are banned. A maximum of 100 people\u00a0allowed in wedding halls, with strict public health measures\u00a0in\u00a0place<\/li>\n<li>All\u00a0forms of\u00a0gatherings in parks and open areas\u00a0banned<\/li>\n<li>Decisive public health measures and strict adherence to hygiene protocols + physical distancing continue to be essential to reduce the spread of COVID-19.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Surveillance<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>The WHO risk assessment remains very high:\u00a0despite slowly declining numbers of new COVID-19 cases in the\u00a0West Bank,\u00a0many\u00a0hospitals\u00a0remain\u00a0at full capacity,\u00a0 with\u00a0ICU bed occupancy at 100%, and 68 patients on ventilators<\/li>\n<li>In the Gaza Strip ICU bed occupancy is at\u00a038% (34\u00a0out of 90 beds), with\u00a0ten\u00a0people on ventilators.\u00a0The\u00a0sudden jump in new COVID-19 infections is presenting a worrying forecast for the\u00a0health sector\u00a0and its ability to cope in the near\u00a0future<\/li>\n<li>The Gaza Strip accounts for the highest of all active cases in oPt (34.3%), followed by the West Bank governorates of Nablus\u00a0(21%), Hebron\u00a0(8.8%), Jenin\u00a0(7.8%),\u00a0 Tulkarm\u00a0(7.2%), Ramallah\u00a0(5.8%), Bethlehem\u00a0(4.1%)\u00a0and Qalqilya\u00a0(3.2%)<\/li>\n<li>83,822 people have been vaccinated in total across the oPt as of\u00a01 April: 60,029\u00a0in the West Bank, and\u00a023,793\u00a0in Gaza<\/li>\n<li>Israel has also vaccinated around 120,000 Palestinian workers who are now due their second\u00a0doses<\/li>\n<li>The overall Case Fatality Rate (CFR)\u00a0across oPt\u00a0remains at 1.1 %. The CFR is the proportion of deaths among identified confirmed\u00a0cases<\/li>\n<li>On 30 March, health authorities in Gaza confirmed the first cases detected with the new variant\u00a0B.1.1.7, first identified in the UK.\u00a0This variant is known to have been driving recent cases in the\u00a0West Bank\u00a0as well.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout two-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"center\"><img class=\"lazyload\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-orig-src=\"https:\/\/i4.createsend1.com\/ei\/j\/75\/E93\/884\/001740\/csfinal\/IMG_4423-99051406db028a3c.JPG\" alt=\"\" width=\"274\" \/><\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><em><strong>WHO Delivers Much Needed PPE Supplies to Gaza\u00a0Strip<\/strong>\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>WHO delivered 27,500 pairs of gloves as part of its dedicated procurement of needed disinfectants &amp; PPE supplies for the Mental Health Hospital and six community mental health centres in the Gaza Strip.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>COVID-19 Vaccine Landscape\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"center\"><img class=\"lazyload\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-orig-src=\"https:\/\/i5.createsend1.com\/ei\/j\/75\/E93\/884\/001740\/csfinal\/Capture1-6b4907d83d4dc6a1.PNG\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" \/><\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>On 29 March, 100,000 Sinopharm vaccines arrived in the West Bank as a donation from\u00a0China<\/li>\n<li>On 30 March a further 25,000 AstraZeneca vaccines were also delivered to the oPt from the Serum Institute of India, the first batch of\u00a0purchased vaccines out of a total of 2\u00a0million<\/li>\n<li>Also on 30 March, 14,000 doses of Pfizer vaccines were donated to oPt by Qatar, for the vaccination of 7,000 Palestinian\u00a0workers crossing from Gaza into WB and IL.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>COVAX Updates<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>An additional 102,960 doses of Pfizer vaccines have been allocated to the oPt through the COVAX mechanism, with expected delivery date end of Q2 (up to eight weeks after signing the\u00a0PO)<\/li>\n<li>A further 144,000 doses of AstraZeneca (AZ) vaccines are due to arrive through COVAX in batches at the end of April, bringing the total number of AZ vaccines arriving in oPt to\u00a0168,000<\/li>\n<li>COVAX deliveries already in place (see table below).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Previous\u00a0shipments<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>40,000 doses of Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccines arrived in Gaza on 11 March, from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), bringing to 60,000 the total number of donated Sputnik V vaccines from the\u00a0UAE<\/li>\n<li>A further 10,000 doses of Sputnik V vaccines were also previously donated by Russia, and 2,000 doses of Moderna vaccines by\u00a0Israel.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><em><strong>COVAX Vaccines Breakdown (AstraZeneca \/ Pfizer &#8211; West Bank \/ Gaza Strip)<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The first COVAX arrivals in oPt on 16 and 17 March included:\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>61,440 vaccine doses in total, of which 24,000 were AstraZeneca, and 37,440 were Pfizer<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>A total of 40,140 doses went to cold storage units in West Bank, and 21,300 doses in total to Gaza<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>AstraZeneca: 14,400 doses to WB; 9,600 to Gaza\u00a0<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Pfizer: 25,740 doses to WB; 11,700 to Gaza.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Laboratory testing and diagnostics\u00a0\u00a0\u200b<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>The number of tests conducted in the oPt has\u00a0decreased\u00a0by\u00a012% during the reporting period (26\u00a0March\u00a0&#8211;\u00a01\u00a0April), with\u00a059,974\u00a0tests\u00a0conducted<\/li>\n<li>In the Gaza Strip, an average of\u00a03,282\u00a0tests per day have been conducted over the past week (26\u00a0March\u00a0\u2013 1 April) with a positivity rate of\u00a025%<\/li>\n<li>WHO delivered to the health authorities in the Gaza Strip,\u00a026,400 COVID-19 RNA extraction tests that are\u00a0essential to maintain the COVID-19 testing\u00a0capacity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Infection Prevention and Control (IPC), Isolation and Case Management, Operations Support and Logistics\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>As of\u00a01 April, the overall occupancy rate of COVID-19 dedicated hospital beds in the\u00a0Gaza Strip is\u00a038%, with\u00a0203\u00a0of 540 beds occupied.\u00a0Currently,\u00a034\u00a0of the 90 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds (38%) are occupied, with\u00a0ten\u00a0requiring invasive mechanical\u00a0ventilation<\/li>\n<li>The COVID-19 designated hospitals in the West Bank\u00a0are\u00a0near their full capacity,\u00a0with 97% occupancy of hospital beds and 100% occupancy in ICUs.
