In addition, the\u00a0MoH\u00a0highlighted the need to intensify efforts to protect healthcare workers as the number of infected workers continues to rise, creating further constraints\u00a0for\u00a0\u00a0the\u00a0health system. Partners were provided with an update on the Humanitarian Response Plan\u00a0process.\u00a0The\u00a0Cluster highlighted the\u00a0need for\u00a0greater\u00a0local NGO\u00a0participation in the submission of projects,\u00a0and training of all partners\u00a0on mainstreaming gender, age and protection against sexual exploitation and abuse.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>GAZA IN-FOCUS<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"center\"><img class=\"lazyload\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-orig-src=\"https:\/\/i5.createsend1.com\/ei\/j\/05\/41C\/024\/024749\/csfinal\/ventilator_3-714077b9ff13c66b.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"466\" \/><\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>The WHO head of office, also\u00a0acting\u00a0as the\u00a0UN Humanitarian Coordinator, Dr Gerald Rockenschaub, visited the Gaza Strip from 9-10 November to meet with local authorities\u00a0to discuss\u00a0the\u00a0progress and challenges of the\u00a0COVID-19 response\u00a0and made the following observations:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Health authorities are reporting\u00a0an\u00a0increasing\u00a0number of\u00a0mild and moderate cases\u00a0(see\u00a0COVID-19\u00a0capacity analysis below)<\/li>\n<li>There\u00a0is concern of potential increase in the number of severe cases\u00a0as more cases are\u00a0being\u00a0reported among older people over 60,\u00a0particularly female<\/li>\n<li>Health officials continue to report\u00a0laboratory\u00a0supplies and kits\u00a0at low\u00a0stock levels. While\u00a0this\u00a0remains a concern,\u00a0testing in Gaza has not been delayed, with more than 2,500 tests a day being conducted. Authorities estimate 120,000 tests\u00a0(\u00a0for\u00a0an estimated\u00a0US\u00a0$2.8\u00a0million) are needed until the end of 2020 and WHO is working to\u00a0mobilize resources to\u00a0procure\u00a0the required quantities from global suppliers.\u00a0Further\u00a0resources are needed to cover\u00a0existing funding gaps<\/li>\n<li>Health authorities report a shortage of\u00a0oxygen supply for COVID-19 patients\u00a0at the dedicated COVID-19\u00a0hospital, the European Gaza Hospital<\/li>\n<li>WHO\u00a0is\u00a0recommending\u00a0and advocating\u00a0stricter adherence to public health measures to better control\u00a0the further spread of the\u00a0disease.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Analysis of\u00a0COVID-19 case management\u00a0capacity in Gaza:\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\nLocal health authorities\u00a0report\u00a0a\u00a0capacity to\u00a0admit and treat\u00a03,234 COVID-19 cases, as of November 12:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>60\u00a0ICU\u00a0beds\u00a0with ventilators\u00a0<\/strong>are available\u00a0in European Gaza Hospital\u00a0(EGH)\u00a0for critical cases.\u00a0EGH\u00a0ICU\u00a0is\u00a0at 21%\u00a0occupancy rate, with 13\u00a0of\u00a060 beds\u00a0currently\u00a0utilised.\u00a0Another 11\u00a0ventilators are\u00a0being installed<\/li>\n<li><strong>590 beds\u00a0are dedicated\u00a0for mild\u00a0and\u00a0moderate cases<\/strong>\u00a0(at\u00a087%\u00a0occupancy rate,\u00a0512\u00a0of 590\u00a0beds\u00a0currently\u00a0utilised\u00a0at three sites), including: 240 beds in EGH\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0187 beds\u00a0currently\u00a0utilised,\u00a0170\u00a0beds in\u00a0Turkish Hospital\u00a0&#8211; fully utilised,\u00a0180 beds\u00a0for mild or asymptomatic cases in Ihsan Agha school adjacent to EGH. Currently,\u00a0155 beds utilised<\/li>\n<li><strong>2,554 beds\u00a0are available\u00a0for\u00a0isolation of\u00a0asymptomatic cases\u00a0<\/strong>in 20 isolation\u00a0centres<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Surveillance\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>The WHO risk assessment remains very high<\/li>\n<li><strong>An\u00a0epidemiological\u00a0analysis of\u00a0trends in the last week<\/strong>\u00a0(04 \u2013 10 November) highlight:<\/li>\n<li>oPt\u00a0reported\u00a0almost the same number of newly confirmed cases\u00a0was reported\u00a0as\u00a0in\u00a0the previous week (28 Oct to 3 Nov).\u00a0However,\u00a0the\u00a0number of new cases reported in\u00a0the\u00a0Gaza\u00a0Strip\u00a0continues to\u00a0increase:\u00a0from 1,619\u00a0last week\u00a0to 1,719 this week.\u00a0On 11 November, 300 new confirmed cases were reported\u00a0in Gaza\u00a0&#8211; the highest number\u00a0over a\u00a024-hour\u00a0period<\/li>\n<li>Gaza accounts for almost 40% of all active cases in\u00a0the\u00a0oPt,\u00a0followed by the West Bank governorates of\u00a0Nablus (17.8%), Bethlehem (11.8%), Jerusalem\u00a0(6.8%),\u00a0Hebron (5.6%)\u00a0and Ramallah (4.3%)<\/li>\n<li>The\u00a0number of\u00a0deaths has decreased from 44 to 33, with\u00a0an\u00a0overall Case Fatality Rate\u00a0(CFR)\u00a0of 0.85% since the beginning of the outbreak.
