Question<\/u>:\u00a0 Yes, Steph, I have some questions on Libya.\u00a0 There are reports that the new UN envoy for Libya will be Mr.\u00a0Nickolay Mladenov.\u00a0 Can you confirm that he is going to take that job?<\/p>\n
Spokesman<\/u>:\u00a0 No.\u00a0 That\u2019s the short answer.\u00a0 The longer answer, as always, when there is jockeying for\u2026 well, when there are posts open, there are all sorts of rumours flying around.\u00a0 I think we have to wait for the usual procedure to take place.<\/p>\n
What I can tell you is that Ms.\u00a0Stephanie Williams remains and actively remains the acting SRSG (Special Representative of the Secretary-General), and there will not be a leadership vacuum at the head of the Mission.<\/p>\n

Question<\/u>:\u00a0 Yes.\u00a0 Thank you, St\u00e9phane.\u00a0 And good to see you again.\u00a0 What\u2019s your comment or the Secretary\u2011General\u2019s comment on the signing of new agreements or treaties between Israel and Arab countries in Washington today, please?<\/p>\n
Spokesman<\/u>:\u00a0 Well, I mean, I think, for the Secretary\u2011General, I think it\u2019s been very clear that he hopes these agreements will enable the Palestinians and the Israelis to renew negotiations. \u00a0He also hopes, obviously, it will be a new opportunity to develop regional stability in the Gulf.\u00a0 And I would also refer you to the statements he\u2019s made about the issue related to annexation.<\/p>\n

Question<\/u>:\u00a0 Thank you, St\u00e9phane.\u00a0 And going back to Nabil\u2019s question, how could the SG interpret this agreement as opening new opportunities for middle\u2026 peace in the Middle East?\u00a0 When this agreement involved in Israel to expedite annexation, threatened the Palestinian that there will be no Palestinian State, and even [Benjamin] Netanyahu, before he departed to Washington, threatened that he will throw out the Palestinians who came after 1993 Oslo Agreement to make peace with Israel, and he said he could send them back out of the country.<\/p>\n
So, don\u2019t you see that this agreement will embolden Israel and will increase its aggressiveness against the Palestinians?<\/p>\n
Spokesman<\/u>:\u00a0 For the Secretary\u2011General, he continues to hope that Israelis, the Palestinian leaders will re\u2011engage in meaningful negotiations, that will end the occupation, that will realize a two\u2011State solution in line with all the UN resolutions.\u00a0 That is, for the Secretary\u2011General, the only path forward.<\/p>\n
