The North\u00a0Governorate remains under lockdown due to the high number\u00a0of reported cases.\u00a0Citizens are urged to adhere to the public\u00a0health and\u00a0infection prevention and control measures,\u00a0to\u00a0wear masks and maintain physical distancing. Schools remain closed until further notice<\/li>\n<li>COVID-19 testing of health workers, in-patients, contacts and suspected cases continues.\u00a0People\u00a0who have been in contact with positive COVID-19 cases\u00a0are urged\u00a0to\u00a0self-identify and\u00a0quarantine at home\u00a0and maintain infection prevention\u00a0and\u00a0control measures, in order\u00a0to\u00a0facilitate tracing and\u00a0stop further transmission<\/li>\n<li>Provision of\u00a0essential\u00a0health\u00a0services, including vaccination\u00a0and\u00a0maternal\u00a0and child services, is gradually resuming\u00a0at the five main Ministry of Health (MoH) district\u00a0primary healthcare\u00a0centres, as\u00a0some\u00a0services were\u00a0temporarily suspended\u00a0following\u00a0the detection of the first case within the community on 25 August.\u00a0Gaza\u00a0health authorities\u00a0are\u00a0working closely with UNRWA and NGO health providers to ensure provision of essential medical services to\u00a0non-communicable\u00a0disease\u00a0patients through outreach teams<\/li>\n<li>WHO continues to address key priorities, including to scale-up testing and contact tracing; case management capacity;\u00a0risk communications and community\u00a0engagement.\u00a0The provision of essential protective\u00a0equipment (PPE) for frontline health workers continues to be a priority together with training in\u00a0infection\u00a0prevention and\u00a0control<\/li>\n<li>Additional challenges\u00a0include:\u00a0access to information about available health and testing services; take up of COVID-19\u00a0free call\u00a0line 103; citizens avoiding medical treatment due to fear of infection<\/li>\n<li><strong>In the West Bank,<\/strong>\u00a0since\u00a0the\u00a0school opening\u00a0on\u00a0Sept 6,\u00a0some\u00a080\u00a0schools\u00a0had to\u00a0temporarily close, following confirmed COVID-19 cases among pupils\u00a0and\/or school staff.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>Surveillance and Laboratory diagnostics\u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<ul>\n<li>The WHO risk assessment remains very high for the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt)<\/li>\n<li>The number of people testing positive for SARS-CoV-2 continues to\u00a0rise<\/li>\n<li>The total number of cases\u00a0increased to\u202f37,214\u00a0including\u00a035,663\u00a0cases\u00a0in the West Bank\u00a0and\u202f1,551\u00a0in the Gaza Strip<\/li>\n<li><strong>In the Gaza Strip,\u00a0<\/strong>the\u00a0cumulative\u00a0total of confirmed cases is\u00a01,551, including\u00a01,427\u00a0active cases,\u00a010\u00a0deaths and\u00a0114\u00a0recovered;\u00a0three patients\u00a0are\u00a0receiving care in intensive care units (ICU), including two connected to mechanical ventilators. A total of\u00a096\u00a0health workers\u00a0are\u00a0also\u00a0among the\u00a0confirmed\u00a0cases.Confirmed cases\u00a0continue to\u00a0increase,\u00a0with\u00a0over 100 cases per day reported for\u00a0most days in the reporting period (since 4 Sept)<\/li>\n<li>To-date, the\u00a0Ministry of\u00a0Health (MoH) reported a total of\u00a025,483\u00a0cases have\u00a0recovered:\u00a025,369\u00a0in\u00a0the West Bank (including\u00a06,662\u00a0in East Jerusalem)\u00a0and\u00a0114\u00a0in Gaza.\u00a0Two\u00a0hundred and\u00a0twenty-four\u00a0have died,\u00a0with\u00a0an\u00a0overall case fatality rate (CFR) of 0.88%<\/li>\n<li>More\u00a0than half (52.7%) of all confirmed cases are\u00a0female (15,070\u00a0cases) and\u00a0more than\u00a0two-third (71%)\u00a0of\u00a0all cases (20,438\u00a0cases) are below the age of 50 years<\/li>\n<li>A total of\u00a0326,469\u00a0laboratory samples have been tested for COVID-19 according to the\u202fMoH<\/li>\n<li><strong>In the West Bank,\u00a0<\/strong>most cases recorded are from Hebron\u00a0(14,447), East Jerusalem (8,550),\u00a0Jerusalem (2,718), Ramallah (2,801),\u00a0Bethlehem (1,946),\u00a0Nablus (1,732),\u00a0Qalqilya (1,143),\u00a0Tulkarm (502),\u00a0Jenin (359),\u00a0Salfit\u00a0(195)\u00a0and Tubas (188).\u00a0A total of\u00a0400\u00a0health workers are among those confirmed cases<\/li>\n<li>31\u00a0patients\u00a0are\u00a0in serious condition\u00a0requiring intensive care treatment in\u00a0ICUs, with\u00a010\u00a0requiring mechanical ventilation (as of\u00a010\u00a0September, 14:00).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>Infection Prevention and Control (IPC), Isolation and Case Management, Operations Support and Logistics\u00a0<\/strong><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout two-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"center\"><img class=\"lazyload\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-orig-src=\"https:\/\/i5.createsend1.com\/ei\/j\/04\/E65\/67F\/004339\/csfinal\/training-99028a06db028a3c.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"272\" \/><\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><em>WHO supported a 2-day training of 45 health workers in the Gaza Strip on COVID-19 case management and infection prevention and control to help strengthen the capacity of the health workforce to respond to the rise of COVID-19 cases in the community. Thanks to the Austrian Government.<\/em><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>26,230\u00a0Palestinians are in quarantine\u00a0(home or facility-based) to prevent further spread of the\u00a0disease<\/li>\n<li><strong>In\u00a0the Gaza Strip<\/strong>,\u202f296\u00a0people are in one of\u00a010\u00a0quarantine\u00a0facilities which include health\u00a0facilities,\u202fhotels or other designated\u00a0buildings.\u00a0People\u00a0needing health care\u00a0are being isolated in the European Hospital\u00a0(EGH), while infected medical personnel are isolated in the Turkish Hospital.\u00a0Mild\u00a0and\u00a0asymptomatic cases\u00a0are being accommodated at the schools adjacent to\u00a0EGH, in addition to\u00a0a designated facility in Deir Al-Balah in the Middle\u00a0Governorate.<\/li>\n<li>WHO delivered\u00a0further\u00a0essential medical supplies,\u00a0equipment and training:\n<ul>\n<li>50 pallets of medical equipment + supplies to health authorities in Gaza\u00a0including\u00a04 ventilators, 31 Oxygen Concentrators\u00a0and\u00a0thousands of PPE item (sept 7) with the Government of Kuwait\u2019s support (see image)<\/li>\n<li>Training to 45 health workers on\u00a0COVID-19 case management, infection, prevention and control and proper use of personal protective equipment (see image).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>In\u00a0the\u00a0West Bank,<\/strong>\u00a0people who were exposed to confirmed cases, and were either not tested, or tested negative, are being sent to home quarantine, as are Palestinians who enter the West Bank from Jordan or Israel.\u00a0The vast majority of\u00a0confirmed cases with mild symptoms are also being referred to home isolation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>East Jerusalem<\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<ul>\n<li>The rate of infection remains high in East Jerusalem. On 6 September, the Israeli government approved night-time curfews in some 40 cities in Israel with high infection rates, and in many Palestinian\u00a0neighbourhoods\u00a0in East Jerusalem. The curfew will be\u00a0implemented\u00a0between 19:00 and 05:00, entailing the closure of non-essential businesses and\u00a0educational institutions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>Advocacy<\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<ul>\n<li>Following extensive advocacy and negotiations with stakeholders, WHO initiated a temporary coordination mechanism on 6 September to support Palestinian patients and companions required by Israel to apply for permits to access essential health services outside the Gaza Strip. Patients in the Gaza Strip face considerable barriers to access due to the delay and denial of Israeli-issued permits to exit for healthcare. Since 19 May 2020, patients have faced additional difficulties because of the absence of a coordinated system for permit applications.<\/li>\n<li>Gaza patients identified by their medical practitioners as needing health services not available in the Gaza Strip may be referred for services in other areas of the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt), or outside the oPt to Israel, Jordan or Egypt. All patients referred to the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, as well as to Israel or Jordan, require Israeli-issued permits to exit.
