The delivery was made possible thanks to the oPt Humanitarian Fund.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><strong>WHO preparedness, readiness and response<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>WHO is continuing to work with partners to support Ministry of Health\u2019s (MoH) efforts to respond to the COVID-19 situation.<\/p>\n<p>Below is an infographic highlighting WHO\u2019s Key Performance Indicators since the COVID-19 response began:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazyload gnd-corner-image gnd-corner-image-center gnd-corner-image-top\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-orig-src=\"https:\/\/i4.createsend1.com\/ei\/j\/A7\/012\/A26\/000156\/csfinal\/KPI-July2020-9900000000079e3c.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" \/><\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Coordination,\u202fplanning\u202fand monitoring<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>In the West Bank,\u00a0OCHA&#8217;s\u00a0Inter-Cluster\u00a0Coordination\u00a0Group (ICCG) led two needs assessment missions of\u00a0governmental isolation\u00a0centres on\u00a010 August. The first mission visited\u00a0two isolation centres in\u00a0Nablus and\u00a0one\u00a0centre\u00a0in Jenin while the\u00a0second\u00a0visited two centres in Jericho and\u00a0Nweima\u00a0in the Jordan valley<\/li>\n<li>In the Gaza\u00a0Strip, representatives\u00a0from WHO and the ICCG\u00a0participated in an assessment visit to the\u00a0newly-constructed\u00a0quarantine in Deir Al Balah in the middle governorate. The visit was organized by OCHA to assess the progress of work at the quarantine\u00a0centre\u00a0and\u00a0identify ways of supporting the centre\u00a0to accommodate Palestinians returning to Gaza<\/li>\n<li>Through\u00a0the activation of the logistics cluster by the humanitarian coordinator,\u00a0most of the\u00a0humanitarian shipments\u00a0pending clearance have been processed;\u00a0a mechanism for the\u00a0coordination of access for medical referral patients from Gaza to essential services outside\u00a0has been agreed, following the suspension of bilateral agreements and coordination in response to Israel\u2019s threatened annexation of parts of the occupied West Bank. The\u00a0final operationalization of\u00a0the agreed\u00a0third-party\u00a0facilitation\u00a0through WHO\u00a0still requires some further follow-up by authorities to put the necessary arrangements in place.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The\u00a0Palestinian Authority\u00a0decided on\u00a012\u00a0August to\u00a0cautiously\u00a0lift some restrictions.\u00a0In accordance with strict health measures, it was decided to implement the following measures:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Allow Friday prayers to be held in public and open squares, while taking all preventive measures in spacing, wearing masks and bringing carpets for the worshipers<\/li>\n<li>Allow the opening of shops and various other economic activities on Fridays and Saturdays, while strictly adhering to the public safety measures set by the Ministry of Health\u00a0protocols<\/li>\n<li>Continue\u00a0to close wedding halls and mourning homes and prohibit all forms of gathering that constitute an environment\u00a0which could encourage\u00a0the spread of the virus<\/li>\n<li>Tighten\u00a0control over compliance with public safety measures, placing the capabilities of all directorates and their employees in various governorates under the governors \u2019command, to form monitoring teams alongside the security forces, to ensure that owners of commercial and industrial establishments and public transport abide by the preventive measures and punishments stipulated\u00a0by law<\/li>\n<li>Continue to close affected areas in villages, camps and neighbourhoods within cities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>Surveillance<\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>The WHO risk assessment remains very high for the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt)<\/li>\n<li>The number of people testing positive for SARS-CoV-2 continues to\u00a0rise<\/li>\n<li>The total number of cases is\u202f20,525\u00a0including\u00a020,444\u00a0cases\u00a0in the West Bank\u00a0and\u202f81\u202fin the Gaza Strip<\/li>\n<li>Since 1\u00a0August\u00a0(to\u00a013\u00a0August\u00a0as of 14:00) the West Bank (including East Jerusalem) has averaged\u00a0406\u00a0cases per day, with\u00a05,287\u00a0new cases and\u00a030\u00a0fatalities<\/li>\n<li>Most cases recorded are from Hebron (9,747), East Jerusalem (5,034),\u00a0Jerusalem (1,585), Ramallah (1,220),\u00a0Bethlehem (919),\u00a0Nablus (657),\u00a0Qalqilya (310), Jenin (209) and\u00a0Tulkarm\u00a0(202).\u00a0Only two\u00a0governorates (Salfit\u00a0and\u00a0Tubas) continue to\u00a0record low case numbers.\u00a0A total of\u00a0270\u00a0health workers are among those confirmed cases<\/li>\n<li>21 patients are in a serious condition (ICU), with four requiring mechanical ventilation\u00a0(as of\u00a012\u00a0August, 14:00)<\/li>\n<li>To-date, the\u00a0Ministry of\u00a0Health (MoH) reported a total of\u00a012,536\u00a0cases have\u00a0recovered:\u00a012,466\u00a0in\u00a0the West Bank (including\u00a03,350\u00a0in East Jerusalem)\u00a0and\u00a070\u00a0in Gaza.\u00a0One hundred and fifteen\u00a0people\u00a0have died,\u00a0with\u00a0an\u00a0overall case fatality rate (CFR) of 0.57%<\/li>\n<li>Less than half (45.8%) of all confirmed cases are male (7,099\u00a0cases) and about\u00a056,7%\u00a0of all cases (11,641\u00a0cases) are below the age of 50 years in the oPt, excluding East Jerusalem<\/li>\n<li>The Egypt-Gaza Rafah Border has\u00a0opened\u00a0for three days, from 10-13 August. More than\u00a01,000\u00a0returnees have already entered\u00a0the\u00a0Gaza\u00a0Strip\u00a0in the first two days,\u00a0all of them were directed to designated facilities where they will complete a compulsory period of 21 days of quarantine.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>Laboratory diagnostics <\/strong>\u200b<\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>A total of\u00a0224,592\u00a0laboratory samples have been tested for COVID-19 according to the\u202fMoH, with\u00a014,478\u00a0samples tested in the Gaza Strip<\/li>\n<li>WHO delivered a new PCR machine to local health authorities in Gaza to help carrying out rapid tests for COVID-19 suspected cases and rapid contact tracing purposes (see image).\u00a0The machine has been procured with the support of oPt Humanitarian Fund.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div><strong>Infection Prevention and Control (IPC), Isolation and Case Management, Operations Support and Logistics\u00a0<\/strong><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout two-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 40px;\" align=\"center\"><img class=\"lazyload\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-orig-src=\"https:\/\/i5.createsend1.com\/ei\/j\/A7\/012\/A26\/000156\/csfinal\/PhotoUNRWAdelivery-99014506db028a3c.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"271\" \/><\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><em>WHO procured and delivered 500,000 medical masks, 250,000 gloves and 3,750 Gowns to UNRWA to help protect front line health staff and medical teams from COVID-19 and to support infection prevention and control efforts. Thanks to the generous support of the Government of Kuwait.<\/em><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>15,110\u00a0Palestinians are in quarantine (home or facility-based) to prevent further spread of the disease<\/li>\n<li>In the Gaza Strip,\u202f1,446\u00a0people are in one of\u00a012\u00a0quarantine facilities which include health\u00a0facilities,\u202fhotels or other designated buildings<\/li>\n<li>WHO procured and delivered a shipment to\u00a0UNRWA (pictured).\u00a0These essential Personal Protective Equipment items will help to protect UNRWA frontline health staff and medical teams in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank and will support infection prevention and control efforts.
