Thanks to oPt Humanitarian Fund for its support.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>WHO preparedness, readiness and response<\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>WHO is continuing to work with partners to support Ministry of Health\u2019s (MoH) efforts to respond to the COVID-19 situation.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>Coordination,\u202fplanning\u202fand monitoring<\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Following the activation of the logistics cluster\u00a0by\u00a0the\u00a0humanitarian coordinator, WFP, WHO and humanitarian partners continue efforts to address the clearance of humanitarian shipments. Coordination of access for medical referral patients from the Gaza Strip to essential services outside remains a concern, following the suspension of bilateral agreements and coordination in response to Israel\u2019s threatened annexation of parts of the occupied West Bank<\/li>\n<li>On July 27 the Palestinian Authority (PA) eased restrictions in the lead up to Eid al-Adha\u00a0allowing shops to open daily until midnight, before\u00a0more stringent movement restrictions\u00a0are\u00a0reinstated from Friday morning to Sunday morning (31 July &#8211; 2 Aug) banning travel in and between all governorates, with only pharmacies and bakeries to open<\/li>\n<li>The PA\u00a0is\u00a0permitting\u00a0Eid al-Adha\u00a0prayers in public spaces if the\u00a0public\u00a0comply with precautionary measures including wearing masks, maintaining physical distancing, bringing personal prayer rugs,\u00a0restricting pray and sermon to 15 minutes<\/li>\n<li>The government has maintained the ban on all social gatherings, including wedding parties and condolence gatherings, in all governorates, the ban on working in the Israeli colonial settlements as well as the closure of all infected areas<\/li>\n<li>On July 29,\u00a0local authorities\u00a0in\u00a0the Gaza\u00a0Strip\u00a0have also eased the restrictions imposed on congregational and Friday prayers in mosques. Worshipers coming from the same household are no longer required to maintain physical distancing\u00a0when praying together, while a safe distance needs to be kept from others\u00a0coming\u00a0from different households. However, the ban still applies to vulnerable groups, like elderly and people with chronic diseases.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>Surveillance<\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>The WHO risk assessment remains very high for the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt)<\/li>\n<li>The number of people testing positive for SARS-CoV-2 continues to\u00a0rise<\/li>\n<li>The total number of cases is\u202f14,838\u00a0including\u00a014,763\u00a0cases\u00a0in the West Bank\u00a0and\u202f 76 \u202fin the Gaza Strip<\/li>\n<li>Since 1 July (to\u00a030\u00a0July\u00a0as of 14:00) the West Bank (including East Jerusalem) has averaged\u00a0402\u00a0cases per day, with\u00a012,070\u00a0new cases and\u00a075\u00a0fatalities<\/li>\n<li>Most cases recorded are from Hebron (7,640), East Jerusalem (3,290),\u00a0Jerusalem (1,147), Ramallah (736),\u00a0Bethlehem (642),\u00a0Nablus (481),\u00a0Qalqilya (195), Jenin (145) and Tulkarm (112).\u00a0Only two\u00a0governorates (Salfit\u00a0and\u00a0Tubas) continue to record low case numbers<\/li>\n<li>A total of 84\u00a0health workers are among those confirmed cases<\/li>\n<li>Seventeen patients are in a serious condition, with three requiring mechanical ventilation (as of 29 July, 16:00)<\/li>\n<li>To-date, the\u00a0Ministry of\u00a0Health (MoH) reported a total of\u00a06,289\u00a0cases have recovered:\u00a06,219\u00a0in the West Bank (including 1,274\u00a0in East Jerusalem)\u00a0and\u00a070\u00a0in Gaza.\u00a0Eighty-four\u00a0people\u00a0have died, with\u00a0an\u00a0overall case fatality rate (CFR) of 0.57%<\/li>\n<li>Less than half (46%) of all confirmed cases are male (5,260\u00a0cases) and about\u00a077% of all cases (8,689\u202fcases) are below the age of 50 years in the oPt, excluding East Jerusalem.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>Laboratory diagnostics <\/strong>\u200b<\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>A total of 194,354 laboratory samples have been tested for COVID-19 according to the\u202f MoH, with\u00a013,900\u00a0samples tested in the Gaza Strip<\/li>\n<li>WHO delivered 45 laboratory kits to local health authorities in the Gaza Strip on July\u00a027.\u00a0Funded by the oPt Humanitarian\u00a0Fund, these kits support testing of 3,000 people for COVID-19. This delivery is part of WHO efforts to\u00a0support the\u00a0increase\u00a0in\u00a0testing capacity which is essential for the quick identification, isolation and prevention of further spread of the disease.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>Infection Prevention and Control (IPC), Isolation and Case Management, Operations Support and Logistics\u00a0<\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>21,845\u00a0Palestinians are in quarantine (home or facility-based) to prevent further spread of the disease<\/li>\n<li>In the Gaza Strip,\u202f 217\u00a0people are in one of\u00a0three\u00a0quarantine facilities which include health\u00a0facilities,\u202fhotels or other designated buildings<\/li>\n<li>WHO supported the\u00a0MoH\u00a0in Gaza in training 86 primary healthcare personnel on infection\u00a0prevention and control measures, including donning and doffing personal protective equipment, and correct waste\u00a0management.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>Mental Health and Psychosocial Support<\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>WHO has supported Gaza\u00a0MoH\u00a0mental health teams in organizing a campaign against substance\u00a0abuse.\u00a0During the reporting period, 20 community awareness sessions were conducted, targeting a total of 500 people from different age groups, with a focus on youth. The campaign included other activities such as distribution of awareness materials, posters and billboards at main streets in Gaza Strip<\/li>\n<li>WHO continued its support to the\u00a0MoH\u00a0mental health directorate in the Gaza Strip by conducting clinical supervision sessions for 20 mental health professionals who provide mental health and psychosocial support to people in quarantine, their families, and frontline health\u00a0workers.\u00a0So far, a total of 800 people, including 200 personnel, benefitted the services provided by the mental health teams.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>Supporting Continuity of Essential Health Services\u00a0<\/strong><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout two-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"center\"><img class=\"lazyload\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-orig-src=\"https:\/\/i4.createsend1.com\/ei\/j\/71\/03D\/3E0\/230954\/csfinal\/IMG_3036-99079e0514028a3c.JPG\" alt=\"\" width=\"246\" \/><\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><em>WHO supported MOH in conducting three training sessions in the Gaza Strip, targeting a total of 80 Primary HealthCare workers, on improving the quality of non-communicable diseases\u2019 surveillance and reporting\u00a0system.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><em>Additionally, WHO coordinated the entry of five essential drugs to maintain service provision to patients with tuberculosis (TB) for three months (pictured left), in addition to a month&#8217;s supply of three life-saving medicines for patients with human immunodeficiency virus infection and acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (HIV\/AIDS).<\/em><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><em>This coordination came as part of WHO support to local authorities in Gaza to ensure that life-saving health services are being sustained amid the COVID-19 pandemic. \u200b<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>Risk Communications and Community Engagement (RCCE)<\/strong><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout two-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazyload gnd-corner-image gnd-corner-image-center gnd-corner-image-top gnd-corner-image-bottom\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-orig-src=\"https:\/\/i5.createsend1.com\/ei\/j\/71\/03D\/3E0\/230954\/csfinal\/Card6-99079e0514028a3c.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"246\" \/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div align=\"center\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"lazyload gnd-corner-image gnd-corner-image-center gnd-corner-image-top gnd-corner-image-bottom\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-orig-src=\"https:\/\/i6.createsend1.com\/ei\/j\/71\/03D\/3E0\/230954\/csfinal\/Card2-9904510514028a3c.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"245\" \/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><em>Social media cards used as part of the RCCE campaign to promote\u00a0wearing a mask in enclosed areas (left)\u00a0and\u00a0safe\u00a0practices during\u00a0Eid al-Adha\u00a0(right).\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>RCCE continues in response to the surge in COVID-19 cases in the West Bank<\/li>\n<li>WHO, UNICEF, the\u00a0MoH and partners are focusing communication efforts with municipalities, media and NGOs around all areas with clusters of cases (Hebron, East Jerusalem, Ramallah, Bethlehem, and Nablus) to disseminate public health messages to help control the spread of COVID-19<\/li>\n<li>Latest key messages (for July 29 to 11 August) focus on celebrating Eid safely;
