The ECC is a hub for coordinating and facilitating the inter-agency humanitarian action on the ground between UN actors, national and international organizations and local authorities at times of crisis.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout two-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"center\"><img class=\"lazyload\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-orig-src=\"https:\/\/i4.createsend1.com\/ei\/j\/61\/8CA\/CA9\/234832\/csfinal\/IMG_247731-99079e0514028a3c.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"246\" \/><\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><em>\u201cIt is very important to raise awareness not only among the public but also among the main humanitarian actors to make sure they know how to protect themselves and others from COVID-19 in their workplaces,\u201d said Abdelnaser Soboh,<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div align=\"center\"><img class=\"lazyload\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/gif;base64,R0lGODlhAQABAAAAACH5BAEKAAEALAAAAAABAAEAAAICTAEAOw==\" data-orig-src=\"https:\/\/i5.createsend1.com\/ei\/j\/61\/8CA\/CA9\/234832\/csfinal\/IMG_2748final-6473ea20b0c2ffe4.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"245\" \/><\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><em>the Gaza Health Cluster Coordinator and\u00a0the acting head of WHO\u2019s Gaza sub-office,\u00a0speaking at a preparedness capacity building session for representatives of the\u00a0Emergency Coordination Center (ECC) in Gaza Strip. \u00a0\u200b<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>Surveillance<\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>The WHO risk assessment remains very high for the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt)<\/li>\n<li>The number of people testing positive for SARS-CoV-2 continues to increase<\/li>\n<li>The total number of cases is\u202f11,875\u00a0including\u00a011,800\u00a0cases\u00a0in the West Bank and\u202f75\u202fin the Gaza Strip,\u00a0with\u00a0three\u00a0new cases reported in Gaza in this period<\/li>\n<li>Since 1 July (to\u00a023\u00a0July) the West Bank (including East Jerusalem) has averaged 396\u00a0cases per day, with\u00a09,110\u00a0new cases and\u00a061\u00a0fatalities<\/li>\n<li>Most cases recorded are from Hebron (6,789), East Jerusalem (2,131),\u00a0Jerusalem (784), Ramallah (654),\u00a0Bethlehem (576),\u00a0Nablus (339)\u00a0and Qalqilya (143).\u00a0Other governorates (Salfit, Tubas,\u00a0Tulkarm and\u00a0Jenin) continue to record low case numbers.<\/li>\n<li>A total of 81 health workers are among those confirmed cases<\/li>\n<li>Sixteen\u00a0patients are in a serious condition, with\u00a0four\u00a0patients requiring mechanical ventilation (as\u00a0of\u00a023\u00a0July)<\/li>\n<li>To-date, the\u00a0Ministry of\u00a0Health (MoH) reported a total of 3,394\u00a0cases have recovered: 3,326\u00a0in the West Bank (including 674 in East Jerusalem)\u00a0and 68\u00a0in Gaza.\u00a0Seventy\u00a0people have died, with an overall case fatality rate (CFR) of 0.59%<\/li>\n<li>Less than half (47%) of all confirmed cases are male (4,388\u00a0cases) and about 81.6% of all cases (7,332\u202fcases) are below the age of 50 years in the oPt, excluding East Jerusalem.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>Laboratory diagnostics <\/strong>\u200b<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>A total of 172,382\u00a0laboratory samples have been tested for COVID-19 according to the\u202fMoH, with\u00a013,634\u00a0samples tested in the Gaza Strip.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>Infection Prevention and Control (IPC), Isolation and Case Management, Operations Support and Logistics\u00a0<\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>23,261 Palestinians are in quarantine (home or facility-based) to prevent further spread of the disease<\/li>\n<li>In the Gaza Strip, \u202f259\u202fpeople are in one of the five quarantine facilities which include health facilities,\u202fhotels or other designated buildings<\/li>\n<li>WHO delivered three types of essential medical equipment to local health authorities to equip five new dedicated COVID-19 respiratory triage centers in key hospitals across the Gaza Strip on July 17. The Centers are designed to ensure that all suspected COVID-19 patients are adequately assessed and managed, separate from other patients in emergency departments to ensure containment and prevent further spread of COVID-19. The equipment is the first part of a larger incoming consignment of medical items which WHO is procuring. The delivery was made possible thanks to the generous support of UK Aid.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>East Jerusalem<\/strong>\u200b<\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>As of July\u00a023\u00a0(12:00), the\u00a0PA\u00a0Ministry of Health reported\u00a02,131\u00a0COVID-19 cases in East Jerusalem. Three deaths have been reported\u00a0(CFR- 0.14%)\u00a0and 174 have recovered in the same period<\/li>\n<li>As of July 20, 16 patients\u00a0are being\u00a0treated in\u00a0three\u00a0designated COVID-19 hospitals\u00a0in East Jerusalem\u00a0including\u00a0five\u00a0patients\u00a0at\u00a0Augusta Victoria\u00a0Hospital,\u00a0seven\u00a0at St. Joseph\u00a0Hospital, and\u00a0four\u00a0at\u00a0Makassed\u00a0Hospital.
