{"id":236385,"date":"2020-06-18T17:20:59","date_gmt":"2020-06-18T21:20:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/?post_type=document&#038;p=236385"},"modified":"2020-07-22T00:38:29","modified_gmt":"2020-07-22T04:38:29","slug":"secretary-general-appoints-leni-stenseth-of-norway-deputy-commissioner-general-unrwa-press-release","status":"publish","type":"document","link":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/document\/secretary-general-appoints-leni-stenseth-of-norway-deputy-commissioner-general-unrwa-press-release\/","title":{"rendered":"Secretary-General Appoints Leni Stenseth of Norway Deputy Commissioner-General of UNRWA &#8211; Press Release (SG\/A\/1963)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h6 style=\"text-align: right;\"><strong>SG\/A\/1963<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>18 JUNE 2020<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/press\/fr\/2020\/sga1963.doc.htm\">Fran\u00e7ais<\/a><\/p>\n<p>United Nations Secretary-General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres announced today the appointment of Leni Stenseth of Norway as Deputy Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East\u00a0(UNRWA) at the level of Assistant Secretary-General.<\/p>\n<p>Currently Norwegian Ambassador to Lebanon, Ms.\u00a0Stenseth brings to the position nearly 20\u00a0years of experience in international politics, humanitarian action and crisis management, 15\u00a0of which were in leadership positions with the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Norwegian Red Cross.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to her role as Norwegian Ambassador to Lebanon, Ms. Stenseth held the post of Director of Humanitarian Affairs with the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs from\u00a02016 to\u00a02019, during which time she also served first as a Member, then as Chair of United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund\u00a0(CERF) Advisory Group.\u00a0 From\u00a02013 to\u00a02016 she was the Director of United Nations Affairs with overall responsibility for Norway\u2019s United Nations policy related to peace and security and sustainable development, as well as policy on gender equality, while also managing Norway\u2019s financial support to the United Nations funds and programmes.<\/p>\n<p>From\u00a02008 to\u00a02013, she held a number of senior roles with the Norwegian Red Cross.\u00a0 Prior to that, she served as a diplomat at the Norwegian Embassies in Amman and Washington. D.C.\u00a0 She also worked as a researcher with FAFO Institute for Applied International Studies in\u00a02000.<\/p>\n<p>Ms.\u00a0Stenseth holds a bachelor\u2019s degree in law and political science and a master\u2019s degree in international relations from the University of Oslo, Norway.\u00a0 She is married and has two children.<\/p>\n<p><strong>For information media.
