Question<\/u>:\u00a0 Thank you, Farhan.\u00a0 I want to go back to the report of the children and armed conflict.\u00a0 In that item, it\u2019s called Israel and the State of Palestine.\u00a0 I am looking for a justification why they stand both entities together, why Israel and Palestine came under one item.\u00a0 When we talk about, for example, 1,565\u00a0children were\u2026 their rights were violated, only 6\u00a0Israelis.\u00a0 When they talk about killing, there were 32\u00a0Palestinians and 1\u00a0Israeli dead.\u00a0 When they talk about detention, they are all Palestinian and none of them Israeli.\u00a0 Putting them together under one file has a malicious intention, to put them in one basket and say this is the number of children whose rights were violated.\u00a0 Why not separate them? \u00a0I need a justification from Ms.\u00a0Virginia Gamba.<\/p>\n

Deputy Spokesman<\/u>:\u00a0 On that, I\u2026 the report itself explains its methodologies and its\u2026 and I would simply refer you to the text of the report, which explains all of the various violations that it records and is essentially self\u2011explanatory.\u00a0 Beyond that, in terms of why it’s written, we put that\u2026 the contents, the work that is being done, the research that’s being done, in the hands of Ms.\u00a0Gamba and her office.\u00a0 She described the work that she did, and she also, I believe, answered your questions on the\u2026 and Ibtisam’s questions on the Israeli\u2011Palestinian parts of the report in her briefing to you on Monday.\u00a0 So, I would simply refer you to that.\u00a0 But, the Secretary\u2011General\u2026 as you know, the report goes out in his name, and he fully supports the work that the team has done on it.<\/p>\n

Question<\/u>:\u00a0 Thank you, Farhan, again.\u00a0 The statement<\/a> issued by 50\u00a0UN human rights independent experts about the annexation of the West Bank on 1\u00a0July by Israel \u2014 have you received the letter, that the SG’s shared this letter? \u00a0It concludes that\u2026 it enumerates the number of human rights violations that come from Israeli [inaudible] Palestinian \u2014 it records at least about\u00a020, at least, areas of violation.\u00a0 And it also put the blame on the United States for protecting such a country.\u00a0 Is that country qualified to talk to people about human rights [inaudible] on what shouldn’t\u2026 what this party should do or shouldn’t?<\/p>\n

Deputy Spokesman<\/u>:\u00a0 Well, as regards to the views of the human rights rapporteurs, their views are in their own independent expertise, and I have nothing further to say in terms of comment about that.\u00a0 The Secretary\u2011General’s own views and the views of Nickolay Mladenov and the other senior officials dealing with this are clear.\u00a0 We have been opposed to annexation.\u00a0 We’re opposed to unilateral steps that harm the two\u2011State solution.\u00a0 And as we get closer to the start of July, if there’s anything further that needs to be said from our end, we will say it.\u00a0 But, you’ll have seen what we’ve said, including in the briefings to the Security Council and in the remarks by the Secretary\u2011General, and we stick to those.<\/p>\n
