Hospital\u00a0and the\u00a0isolation\u00a0facilities\u00a0in order to\u00a0advise on\u00a0preparedness and assess capacities\u00a0to manage and treat COVID-19 cases\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"x_layout x_one-col x_fixed-width x_stack\">\n<div class=\"x_layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"x_column\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>WHO\u00a0participated in\u00a0a\u00a0visit\u00a0of\u00a0a\u00a0technical\u00a0delegation from\u00a0the People&#8217;s Republic of\u00a0China\u00a0to the Ministry of Health\u00a0to share\u00a0knowledge and\u00a0experience\u00a0with the COVID-19\u00a0response.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Surveillance<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The total number of cases in oPt is\u202f665, including\u00a0593\u00a0cases in the West Bank and\u202f72\u202fin the Gaza Strip. In the West Bank, most cases are from East Jerusalem (180), Jerusalem Governorate (140), followed by\u202fHebron (88)\u202fRamallah (77)\u202fand\u202fBethlehem (59).\u202fA total of 11 health workers are among those confirmed cases<\/li>\n<li>To-date, the Ministry of Health (MoH) reported a total of\u202f558\u202fcases have recovered:\u202f517\u202fin West\u00a0Bank\u202f(including\u202f118\u202fin East Jerusalem)\u00a0and\u202f41\u202fin\u202fGaza\u202fand five\u202fpeople have died in the oPt:\u202fcase\u202ffatality rate\u202f(CFR) is 0.81%<\/li>\n<li>About\u202ftwo-thirds (63%) of all confirmed cases are male (309\u202fcases) and about 83% of all cases (403\u202fcases) are below the age of 50 years in the oPt, excluding East testing supplies to support COVID-19 testing of more than 600 people.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Laboratory diagnostics\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A total of\u202f64,277\u202flaboratory samples have been tested for COVID-19 according to the\u202fMoH, with 11,584 samples tested in the Gaza Strip<\/li>\n<li>In the reporting period (from May 29 \u2013 June 11), WHO has procured and delivered the following items to health authorities in the Gaza Strip\u00a0(see images above and below):\n<ul>\n<li>laboratory testing supplies to support the testing of more than 600 people for COVID-19,\u00a0financed through\u00a0the oPt Humanitarian\u00a0Pooled\u00a0Fund<\/li>\n<li>two pallets of lab supplies including 8,000 swabs on June 2 to enable the screening of class=\"x_layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"x_column\">\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Infection Prevention and Control (IPC), Isolation and Case Management,\u00a0operations support and logistics\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>According to the\u202fMoH,\u00a02,287\u202fPalestinians are in quarantine (home or facility-based) for monitoring of their symptoms and ensuring early detection of cases<\/li>\n<li>In Gaza,\u202f344\u202fpeople are in one of the\u00a0seven\u202foperational quarantine facilities which include designated health facilities,\u202fschools\u202for hotels<\/li>\n<li>WHO is supporting the\u00a0MoH\u00a0in assessing the maternity and\u00a0newborn\u00a0units in\u00a0six\u00a0public and\u00a0four\u00a0NGO hospitals,\u00a0by\u00a0evaluating the infection prevention and control procedures\u00a0in the context of COVID-19, and testing the units\u2019 preparedness for responding to\u00a0outbreaks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"x_layout x_fixed-width x_stack\">\n<div class=\"x_layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"x_column MDM-France\u00a0to\u00a0conduct\u00a0two\u00a0simulation exercises, targeting\u00a0more than\u00a040\u00a0participants from the emergency medical services\u00a0teams of the Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS).\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"x_layout x_one-col x_fixed-width x_stack\">\n<div class=\"x_layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"x_column\">\n<div>\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>The training, which was\u00a0conducted on 1 and 6 June in Khan Younis and Gaza\u00a0city, aimed to enhance PRCS staff capacity in identifying COVID-19 cases based on\u00a0MoH\u00a0and WHO criteria, to ensure adherence to\u00a0infection prevention and control measures while handling COVID-19 suspected cases, and to improve coordination and communication among dispatch, paramedics and receiving facilities.\u00a0The training also assessed staff knowledge of\u00a0the correct referral pathway and evaluated the documentation and registration of suspect cases<\/li>\n<li>Additionally,\u00a0a committee of WHO, MDM-F and\u00a0MoH\u00a0conducted a meeting to\u00a0review the operational policies of Respiratory Triage Centers\u00a0on June 8.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"x_layout x_one-col x_fixed-width x_stack\">\n<div class=\"x_layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"x_column\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>East Jerusalem<\/strong>\u200b<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>As of June 11,\u202f2020\u202f(10:00\u202fam), the\u202fPalestinian Authority\u2019s Ministry of Health reported 180 COVID-19 cases in East Jerusalem. Two deaths have been reported (CFR- 1.1%) and 155 recovered in the same period<\/li>\n<li>Like other hospitals, the East Jerusalem Hospital Network (EJHN) facilities operate under emergency measures. Hospitals had to scale down their health services and prioritize essential interventions. Referrals have been restricted to urgent cases and those requiring time-dependent treatments or interventions. Reduction in health service utilization and referrals resulted in a scaled-down operational capacity and hence reduced revenues<\/li>\n<li>EJHN hospitals reported a significant decline in outpatient consultations (72%), elective surgeries (66%), essential surgeries (74%), chemotherapy sessions for cancer patients (43%) in April 2020 as compared to April 2019.\u202f\u00a0Similarly, referrals to the East Jerusalem hospitals went down substantially, by 72% from the West Bank and 59% from Gaza Strip, for the same period.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<p><strong>Ensuring\u00a0access to\u00a0essential\u00a0health\u00a0Services\u00a0in Gaza disposables have reached critical low levels and are affecting provision of critical health services for patients with chronic conditions in Gaza Strip.<\/li>\n<li>WHO handed over life-saving haemodialysis drug supplies to the local health authorities in the Gaza Strip on June\u00a08.\u00a0These essential drug supplies will help maintain life-saving support for up to 900 patients, including at least 821 regular haemodialysis patients.\u00a0This delivery was made possible with the generous support of\u00a0the Government of Czech
