{"id":236111,"date":"2020-05-28T11:57:02","date_gmt":"2020-05-28T15:57:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/?post_type=document&#038;p=236111"},"modified":"2020-06-19T15:36:45","modified_gmt":"2020-06-19T19:36:45","slug":"germany-supports-wfp-food-assistance-to-vulnerable-palestinians-press-release","status":"publish","type":"document","link":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/document\/germany-supports-wfp-food-assistance-to-vulnerable-palestinians-press-release\/","title":{"rendered":"Germany Supports WFP Food Assistance to Vulnerable Palestinians &#8211; Press Release"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"layout--header wfp-wrapper mt4\">\n<div class=\"field field--field-publication-date\"><strong><time datetime=\"2020-05-28T12:00:00Z\">28 May 2020<\/time><\/strong><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"field field--node-title wfp-wrapper\">\n<p class=\"fs2 fs1-md fs-headline-lg lh-heading\"><em><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">East Jerusalem \u2013 The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) welcomed a contribution of \u20ac6 million (US$6.5 million) from the Government of Germany to cover the food needs of more than 300,000 non-refugees in Gaza and the West Bank for up to three months.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\" ph3 ph0-lg\">\n<div class=\"wfp-grid pv4 wfp-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"layout--content wfp-u-1 wfp-u-md-17-24 wfp-box\">\n<p>WFP will use this generous donation from the German Federal Foreign Office to continue providing food assistance through electronic food vouchers for 274,000 non-refugees in Gaza and the West Bank for two months. Families can use the vouchers to buy food items of their choice in any of WFP designated shops across Gaza and the West Bank.<\/p>\n<p>Another 35,000 people in Gaza will receive food rations for three months. The food rations include fortified wheat flour, pulses, vegetable oil and iodized salt.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe COVID-19 crisis has pushed thousands of people further into poverty and hunger increasing humanitarian needs amidst an ailing economy. This necessitates more extensive interventions from WFP and other agencies,\u201d said WFP Representative and Country Director Stephen Kearney. We have faith in our donors\u2019 support to respond to increasing needs and are grateful to the Government and people of Germany for their consistent and reliable support at this difficult time.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout--content wfp-u-1 wfp-u-md-17-24 wfp-box\">\n<p>Germany is one of the largest donors to WFP globally and is WFP\u2019s top donor in Palestine with contributions totalling nearly US$19 million over the past three years.WFP assists non-refugee communities in Gaza and the West Bank who face high levels of unemployment and live under the deep national poverty line of US$3.7 a day to cover basic housing, clothing and food needs.
