\u00a0<\/span>The\u00a0<\/span>UN\u00a0<\/span>Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People<\/span>\u00a0will hold a virtual conversation on \u201c<\/span>The COVID-19 pandemic under occupation \u2013 national resilience and international support<\/span><\/b>\u201d. The event will<\/span>\u00a0take place<\/span>\u00a0on<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>21<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>April 2020 from 10.00 a.m. to 11.<\/span>3<\/span>0 a.m. (N<\/span>ew\u00a0<\/span>Y<\/span>ork<\/span>\u00a0Time) and livestreamed on the Committee Facebook page<\/span>:\u00a0<\/span>https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/UN.palestinianrights\/<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span>V<\/span>i<\/span>ewers<\/span>\u00a0can pose questions via the Committee Facebook page and the email\u00a0<\/span>dpr-meeting@un.org<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>The event will\u00a0<\/span>consist of\u00a0<\/span>a conversation between the Committee Bureau<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>and\u00a0<\/span>3 Palestinian civil society<\/span>\u00a0representatives<\/span>:<\/span>\u00a0Mr. Ali\u00a0<\/span>Gheith<\/span>, a Palestinian journalist and activist\u00a0<\/span>in\u00a0<\/span>East Jerusalem; Ms.\u00a0<\/span>Randa<\/span>\u00a0Siniora, Palestinian human rights and women’s rights activist and General Director of the Women\u2019s Center for Legal Aid and Counselling<\/span>\u00a0in Ramallah<\/span>; and Mr.\u00a0<\/span>Issam<\/span>\u00a0Younis, the Director<\/span>–<\/span>General of the Al\u00a0<\/span>Mezan<\/span>\u00a0Center for Human Rights in Gaza.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span>The 1.5-hour\u00a0<\/span>event<\/span>\u00a0will address\u00a0<\/span>how the Palestinian population in the West Bank\u00a0<\/span>– including East Jerusalem<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>–\u00a0<\/span>and Gaza\u00a0<\/span>is\u00a0<\/span>coping with<\/span>\u00a0the COVID-19 pandemic under the ongoing occupation<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0<\/span>political uncertainty in Israel and threats<\/span>\u00a0of annexation<\/span>. The speakers will elaborate on their distinct\u00a0<\/span>sets of\u00a0<\/span>challenges and restrictions in their respective locations, and on\u00a0<\/span>whether<\/span>\u00a0Israel, the\u00a0<\/span>occupying<\/span>\u00a0Power, is\u00a0<\/span>living up to its<\/span>\u00a0responsibilities under<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>international law\u00a0<\/span>vis-\u00e0-vis the occupied Palestinian population<\/span>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>The\u00a0<\/span>e<\/span>vent will also address\u00a0<\/span>options and strategies for Member States and global civil society to provide continued political and practical support to the Palestinian people.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
