A preventive medicine doctor is available on site to ensure adequate case management procedures. Infection prevention and control protocols were implemented as per WHO guidelines. Investigations and contact tracing were initiated<\/li>\n<li>Further spread can be contained through consolidated action, but collective efforts are required and further resources and support will be needed to enhance response efforts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div Ministry of Health\u2019s (MoH) efforts to respond to the COVID-19 situation in oPt:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>MoH isolation facilities near Jericho Hospital have been equipped with air condition units to suit the climate conditions with support of WHO<\/li>\n<li>N95 masks were delivered by WHO to the MoH as part of the supply of personal protective equipment (PPE) kits<\/li>\n<li>A number of PPE kits were provided to key health partners: UNRWA and Palestinian Medical Relief Society<\/li>\n<li>WHO continues to support and technically guide the inter-agency efforts to contain the outbreak.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The MOH have been\u00a0accelerating preparedness and have implemented respective measures to ensure early detection and case management of any suspected COVID-19 cases and so far have ensured that:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A central operations room has been established at the Prime Minister\u2019s office to coordinate activities, including contacts with media<\/li>\n<li>Laboratory capacities of the\u00a0MoH\u00a0have been scaled up<\/li>\n<li>Point of entry checks for incoming\u00a0travelers\u00a0are being conducted and\u00a0isolation wards in health facilities have been established<\/li>\n<li>Health workers are equipped and trained in the appropriate infection prevention and control measures\u00a0and case management<\/li>\n<li>The general public continues to be updated on how to protect themselves.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div><strong>Delivering personal protective equipment<\/strong><\/div>\n<div class=\"layout two-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>N95 masks were delivered by WHO to the MoH and some UN agencies as part of the supply of personal in\u00a0Eastern\u00a0Mediterranean\u00a0Region:<\/strong><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div>\n<ul>\n<li>Total of 6,131\u00a0COVID-19 cases and 147\u00a0deaths in Eastern Mediterranean Region: 5,823\u00a0in Iran (including 145\u00a0deaths), 61 in Kuwait, 56 in Bahrain, 46 in Iraq (including 2 deaths), 45 in United Arab Emirates, 22 in Lebanon, 16 in oPt, 16 in Oman, 15 in Egypt, 12 in Qatar, 6 in Pakistan, 5 in Saudi Arabia, 4 in Afghanistan, 2 in Morocco, 1 in Jordan, 1 in Tunisia. \u00a0Israel has 19 cases confirmed (as of 07-Mar-20, 10:00 CET)<\/li>\n<li>WHO urges the public to obtain the latest information on COVID-19 from key sources such as MoH and WHO (see\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/who.createsend1.com\/t\/j-l-qljidjl-l-i\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener one-col fixed-width stack\">\n<div class=\"layout__inner\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<p>What is the risk to individuals?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Recent research shows that most people infected with COVID-19 show mild illness, however, some people, in\u00a0 particular older people, and those with pre-existing medical conditions (such as cardiovascular disease, chronic respiratory disease or diabetes) are at risk for severe disease.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>What action should I take?<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>If you are not in an area where COVID-19 is spreading<\/strong>, or have not travelled from an area where COVID-19 is spreading, or have not been in contact with an infected patient, your risk of infection is low.<\/li>\n<li>It is understandable that you may feel anxious about the outbreak.<\/li>\n<li>It\u2019s a good idea to get the facts from reliable sources to help you accurately determine your risks so that you can take reasonable precautions<\/li>\n<li>It is important to be informed of the situation and take appropriate measures to protect yourself and your family<\/li>\n<li><strong>\u00a0If you are in an area where there are cases of COVID-19 you need to take the risk of infection seriously<\/strong>.
