Question<\/u>:\u00a0 The publication of the list<\/a> of com\u2026 private companies operating in occupied territories, that has produced a statement of outrage from the US\u2026 from Pompeo, the Secretary of State from the US.\u00a0 What was the process by which\u2026 this is a remedial question, but what was the process by which that list came to be published historically, and more recently, as well, within the human rights agency of the UN?<\/p>\n

Spokesman<\/u>:\u00a0 Sure.\u00a0 I think, first of all, it’s important to understand that the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachelet, acted on a mandate given to her office by the Human Rights Council back in\u00a02016.\u00a0 It is her responsibility to act upon mandates given to her by the Member States who sit on the Human Rights Council.\u00a0 It’s not as if she had\u2026 you know, a mandate is given by Member States.\u00a0 It’s not as if she had an option not to fulfil that mandate.\u00a0 So, the initial resolution<\/a> was passed in\u00a02016.\u00a0 The work has been done since then.\u00a0 I mean, I think, on the details of the work, I would refer you to press releases put out by the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights\u00a0(OHCHR).\u00a0 You can contact my colleagues in Geneva who can tell you about how the work was done.\u00a0 You know, there have been different reactions to the list, and I think it’s perfectly legitimate to have\u2026 for various Member States to have opinions on the report and on the mandate given to\u2026 by the High Commissioner\u2026 to the High Commissioner by the Human Rights Council.\u00a0\u00a0Madames et messieurs<\/em>,\u00a0hasta ma\u00f1ana<\/em>.<\/p>\n
