{"id":222144,"date":"2019-10-10T14:42:34","date_gmt":"2019-10-10T18:42:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/?post_type=document&#038;p=222144"},"modified":"2019-10-15T14:45:11","modified_gmt":"2019-10-15T18:45:11","slug":"humanitarian-coordinator-mcgoldrick-calls-for-protection-of-children-in-gaza-statement","status":"publish","type":"document","link":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/document\/humanitarian-coordinator-mcgoldrick-calls-for-protection-of-children-in-gaza-statement\/","title":{"rendered":"Humanitarian Coordinator McGoldrick Calls for Protection of Children in Gaza &#8211; Statement"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ochaopt.org\/ar\/content\/statement-humanitarian-coordinator-mr-jamie-mcgoldrick-calling-protection-children-gaza\">Arabic: \u0627\u0644\u0639\u0631\u0628\u064a\u0629<\/a><\/p>\n<h6><strong>Jerusalem, 10 October 2019<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p>As we head towards another Friday of demonstrations at the Israeli fence surrounding the Gaza Strip,\u00a0I am deeply concerned about the impact that the violence at these demonstrations has on children.\u00a0Since 30 March 2018, 40 Palestinian children\u00a0have been killed and 1,521 injured\u00a0with live ammunition\u00a0by\u00a0Israeli security forces.\u00a0I <a href=\"https:\/\/ochaopt.us5.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=5a6b19e1cb44562e4e7a92167&amp;id=bb8656c8d4&amp;e=fda7afd3b0\">again<\/a> call on the Israeli authorities to refrain from using excessive force, including the use of live ammunition, in response to the demonstrations and remind them of their responsibility to ensure the safety and well-being of children.<\/p>\n<p>I am concerned that the demonstrations\u2019 organizers have branded\u00a0tomorrow\u2019s protests as \u201cOur Child Martyrs,\u201d\u00a0which may push boys and girls to put themselves at risk.
