The following is a near-verbatim transcript of today\u2019s noon briefing by Farhan Haq, Spokesman for the Secretary-General.<\/p>\n

Question<\/u>:\u00a0 Farhan, I know that you have seen Al Jazeera\u2019s reporting of the ethics report\u2026the internal ethics report at UNRWA (United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees) which says there have been abuses of authority by leadership in UNRWA.\u00a0 So my question is simple:\u00a0 Does the Secretary\u2011General have full confidence in the Commissioner-General of UNRWA, Pierre Kr\u00e4henb\u00fchl?<\/p>\n

Deputy Spokesman<\/u>:\u00a0 Well, you\u2019ve heard the Secretary\u2011General express his views on Mr.\u00a0Kr\u00e4henb\u00fchl, but regarding the allegations you have been saying\u2026\u00a0 [cross talk]<\/p>\n

Question<\/u>:\u00a0 I haven\u2019t heard him express his views since this report has come out, so does he still have full confidence in him?<\/p>\n

Deputy Spokesman<\/u>:\u00a0 Well, on this issue, the basic point is an investigation of the allegations contained in the report that you just mentioned is ongoing.\u00a0 Until this investigation is completed, the Secretary\u2011General is not in a position to make any further comments on this matter.\u00a0 As he has shown in the past, the Secretary\u2011General is committed to acting swiftly upon receiving the full report.<\/p>\n

Question<\/u>:\u00a0 So he is not prepared to answer, \u201cYes\u201d or \u201cNo,\u201d whether he has confidence in his Commissioner-General at this stage?<\/p>\n

Deputy Spokesman<\/u>:\u00a0 The Commissioner-General has, you know, has been doing excellent work; but we are saying that without prejudice to the result of this investigation.\u00a0 Obviously, we are waiting to see what this has to say.<\/p>\n

Question<\/u>:\u00a0 And is the Secretary\u2011General concerned about some of the allegations here?\u00a0 Does he believe there is something rotten in UNRWA given that three of the senior officials in the UNRWA have departed in the last month?<\/p>\n

Deputy Spokesman<\/u>:\u00a0 Again, we won\u2019t have any further comment until the investigation is completed, so I am not prepared at this point to make an evaluation on the claims that have been made.\u00a0 Yes?<\/p>\n
