AD HOC COMMITTEE RECEIVED SUB-COMMITTEE REPORTS<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

Convening this evening under the Chairmanship of Dr. Herbert V. Evatt (Australia) the Ad Hoc Committee on the Palestinian Question received from the Rapporteurs of Sub-Committees One and Two, the reports of their respective subcommittees and examined the procedure to be followed in discussing the reports.<\/p><\/div>\n

Introducing the report of Subcommittee Two, which provides for and independent unitary Palestinian State, Sir Zafrullah Kahn (Pakistan) the Rapporteur, cutlined the method of work followed by the Subcommittee and by its Working Groups, and described the general pattern of the report and of its recommendations.<\/p><\/div>\n

Professor Henrique Rodriguez Fabregat (Uruguay), Rapporteur of Subcommittee One, then introduced the Report of his subcommittee which provides for the partition of Palestine into independent Arab and Jewish states and the placing of the city of Jerusalem under trusteeship.  Prof. Fabregat lined the main points of the Report and stressed the unanimity which prevailed in Subcommittee One.<\/p><\/div>\n

The Committee then considered the question of procedure to be followed in the discussion of the two reports.  The Chairman informed the Committee that the President of the Assembly had stated that it would be most desirable if the Committee completed action on the reports in time for the General Assembly also to deal with them and take a vote.<\/p><\/div>\n

After an exchange of views, it was agreed that the Committee will reconvene tomorrow morning at 10:30 a.m. to hear explanations from members of Subcommittee one on the points of their report which differ from the Majority’ report.<\/p><\/div>\n
