States parties to the NPT, during the second preparatory session for the 2005 Review Conference, reiterated their support for such a zone, reaffirmed the importance of the implementation of the 1995 Review and Extension Conference&#8217;s resolution on the Middle East, and recognized that the resolution remained valid until its goals and objectives were achieved.&#160; The report also offers replies from Israel, Mexico, and Venezuela.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align:left;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;font-size:9pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">Part II of that report (document<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/unispal.un.org\/pdfs\/C0131B28CCB7D62B85256DBA006927CF.pdf\" style=\"color:#0000ff;text-align:left;font-size:9pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">&nbsp;A\/58\/137, Part II<\/a><span style=\"color:#000000;font-size:9pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">) transmits General Assembly <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/unispal.un.org\/pdfs\/F31580FBB3D7FD4585256CB50072A075.pdf\" style=\"color:#0000ff;text-align:left;font-size:9pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">resolution 57\/97<\/a><span style=\"color:#000000;font-size:9pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">, entitled &#8220;The risk of nuclear proliferation in the Middle East&#8221;, by which the Assembly calls upon Israel to accede to the NPT.&#160; An annex to the report contains a copy of a resolution entitled &#8220;Application of International Atomic Energy safeguards in the Middle East&#8221; (document <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/unispal.un.org\/pdfs\/75C5F5A16DBB377A85256DB9005163F8.pdf\" style=\"color:#0000ff;text-align:left;font-size:9pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">GC(47)\/RES\/13<\/a><span style=\"color:#000000;font-size:9pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">), that was adopted by the General Conference of the IAEA at its tenth plenary meeting.&#160;
