Juan Carlos Brandt, Associate Spokesman for the Secretary-General, began today's briefing by reading out the following statement, attributable to the Spokesman for the Secretary-General: <\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

"The Secretary-General has learned with disappointment and deep concern that, despite international appeals, the Israeli authorities have decided to proceed with construction at Abu Ghneim\/Har Homa. He calls on the parties to do their utmost to find mutually acceptable solutions and proceed with the peace negotiations". Mr. Brandt said that copies of the statement would be available after the briefing.<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n
