On behalf of the United Nations Palestine Conciliation Commission, I have the honour to communicate to you for transmission to the General Assembly the <\/span>first interim report<\/a> of the United Nations Economic Survey Mission for the Middle East. The establishment of this mission was described in paragraph c of the Fourth Progress Report of the Conciliation Commission to the Secretary-General (<\/span>document A\/AC.25\/PR.4<\/a>).<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The Conciliation Commission considers that this <\/span>report<\/a> constitutes a constructive approach to the Palestine refugee problem and believes that the General Assembly will wish to give urgent consideration to it. The Commission is of the opinion that the Assembly will wish to obtain additional information concerning certain of the findings and recommendations contained in the <\/span>report<\/a>. In this connection, in the light of the arrangements made by the Secretary-General with the International Red Cross organizations and the American Friends Service Committee (document A\/1060), particular reference is made to the recommendation that the number of rations issued should be reduced by one-third as of 1 January 1950.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n
