The minister also asked all the humanitarian and medical international organizations to continue their crucial role in offering the help to the Palestinians and to be prepared for any crises <\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#ff0000;text-align:justify;font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><strong><u>WHO: Opening of Pilot Community Mental Health Centers in the West Bank and Gaza<\/u><\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:justify;font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">As part of the strategy development of the health sector, the World Health Organization and&nbsp;&nbsp;the Ministry of Health have been implementing a Community Mental Health&nbsp;&nbsp;project, in the West Bank and Gaza, for the past year, funded by the European Commission Humanitarian Office (ECHO).&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:justify;font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">As part of this project, the construction and equipping of 3 pilot Community Mental Centers have now been completed. A number of health centers are supplemented weekly while other stable and mobile clinics are supplemented daily.<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:justify;font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">So far the campaign, which was originally planned to last three weeks, has managed to immunize almost 78% of the targeted children in the first week, which is a clear success.<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-top:10px;font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;color:#ff0000;padding-bottom:5px;text-align:justify;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><strong><u>UNRWA released its Annual Report of the Department of Health 2003<\/u><\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:justify;padding-bottom:5px;font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) published recently its Annual Report of the Department of Health for the year 2003, the report comprises of the following chapters:<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">1.<span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; This number of displaced households represents 0.8% of the population living in the affected areas.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:center;font-size:13pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><strong>REPORTS<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#ff0000;text-align:left;font-size:12pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><strong><u>Impacts of Construction the Wall in AL-Ram area<\/u><\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:justify;font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">Al Ram area, is currently the Palestinian gateway between Jerusalem and Ramallah. Though construction of the wall first began in the area last February, in the last month, the Israelis have marked a heightened pulling up roads, blocking access and tightening their grip on Al Ram. <\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:justify;font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">The Wall&#39;s construction in Al Ram, as in other areas will result in the division and separation of Palestinian communities, including schools, places of work, land, medical facilities and family.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:justify;font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">Health Inforum, visited Al Ram village with Physician for Human Rights Israel .<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align:justify;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span style=\"color:#000000;font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\"><strong><u>Main findings:<\/u><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"color:#000000;font-size:7pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\"><strong><sup>1<\/sup><\/strong><\/span><\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:justify;font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><strong>Description of Al-Ram Wall:<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:justify;font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">The wall will be located on the Jerusalem- Ramallah main road (starting form Dahiyat Al Bareed&nbsp;&nbsp;junction all the way up to Qalandiya checkpoint), its length will 2.5 Km with a height of 4.5 meters.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:justify;font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">This construction is going on the opposite side of the road if you are going toward Ramallah, so the road became one way and the other side is blocked, so people are going 2 extra kilometers bypass through Al Dahiya to pass a road that was supposed to be 200-400 meters.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:justify;font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><strong>Population: <\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:justify;font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">Al Ram population is 65,000 according to the Council; around 60% of them are holding Jerusalem IDs.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:justify;font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><strong>Area:<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:justify;font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">The area of Al Ram (including Dahiet Al-Bareed) is 25,000 Dunoms. <\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:justify;font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">By finishing the wall, all Al Ram will be an enclave and will have one exit through Jaba&#8217; Where the first case reported from Asker camp on December 12th, 2003. The results showed that IgM for mumps were negative in 24 samples, equivocal in six samples, and positive in one only. Histo-pathological examinations showed a viral infectious process is the main feature. The nasopharyngeal aspirates samples were negative for influenza A, B viruses, adenovirus, and Respiratory synsecial virus (RSV) by molecular PCR, Para-influenza by Shell Vile and by electron-microscopic examinations. Four of the six nasopharyngeal aspirates were positive for mumps by RT-PCR, in addition, four of the six biopsies were positive for mumps virus by RT-PCR <\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align:left;margin-left:20px;\">\n\t\t\t\t<span style=\"color:#000000;font-size:10pt;font-family:Symbol, serif;\">&#183;<span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:#000000;font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">Serum samples are subjected to sequence analysis of the gene.<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<div style=\"text-align:left;margin-left:20px;\">\n\t\t\t\t<span style=\"color:#000000;font-size:10pt;font-family:Symbol, serif;\">&#183;<span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span><\/span><span style=\"color:#000000;font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">Still we are waiting for the final results of sequence analysis and neutralization of the virus<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:justify;font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;margin-left:20px;\">\n\t\t\t\t<strong><u>Epidemiological Data<\/u><\/strong><strong>&nbsp;:<\/strong>&nbsp;up to July, 4th, 2004 were: The total number of cases reached 1984 cases, 49.8% of cases reported from Balata camp, 41.3% from Asker camps, 4% from Fara&#8217;a camp, and 2.3% from each of Tulkarem and camp No.1. The ages mostly affected was 6 years (15.2%), 12 years (10.2%) and 13 years (9%) respectively, while the age groups mostly affected were 11 to 15 years (41.3%) and 6 to 10 years (30.7%). Male affected more than females (male to female ratio was 1.26). 75% of cases received MMR single dose at age of 15 months.
