{"id":209396,"date":"1998-04-01T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-03-12T19:45:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/?p=209396"},"modified":"2019-03-12T19:45:06","modified_gmt":"2019-03-12T19:45:06","slug":"auto-insert-209396","status":"publish","type":"document","link":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/document\/auto-insert-209396\/","title":{"rendered":"UNESCO awards\/Hebron mayor &#8211; Press release (excerpts)"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:10pt;font-family:Courier New, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">STOCKHOLM HOSTS UNESCO CITIES FOR PEACE PRIZE AWARDS CEREMONY<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:10pt;font-family:Courier New, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">Stockholm, Sweden, April 1 &#123;No.98-62&#125; &#8211; UNESCO&#39;s Cities for Peace Prizes and Special Mentions were awarded to eight mayors from all regions of the world in the Town Hall of the Swedish capital last night by the Organization&#180;s Director-General, Federico Mayor, who said the awards &quot;honoured the struggle against urban violence, poverty and exclusion and celebrated mayors working for the security and dignity of all citizens, especially the most underprivileged.&quot;<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:10pt;font-family:Courier New, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">Mr Mayor explained that &quot;our cities are the frontier in the struggle for a culture of peace everywhere&quot; and said that UNESCO&#39;s Cities for Peace initiative will also include the creation of a network and data bank to enable laureates, and other cities, to share their experiences in working to improve the living conditions of city dwellers.
