Statement by the High Representative, Catherine Ashton, on the<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

incidents of 5 June in the area of separation on the occupied Syrian Golan<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

Catherine Ashton, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the Commission, issued the following statement today: <\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

“I regret any loss of life and injuries of civilians from IDF action in the area of separation on the occupied Syrian Golan on Sunday 5 June. It is important that demonstrations be peaceful and the response measured and proportionate.<\/i><\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

Yesterday’s incident could undermine the long-held cease-fire on the Golan. I call on all parties to exercise restraint.Provocative actions like this should be avoided.<\/i><\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

The events of 5 June and 15 May emphasize the urgency to resume peace negotiations for a comprehensive and sustainable resolution of the Arab-Israeli conflict. The EU stands ready to do everything possible to help all parties choose the path of peace and engage in successful negotiations.”<\/i><\/p><\/div>\n
