Japan’s New Assistance to the PA for<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

Support for the Public Activities of the Communities in Jordan Valley<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

1. The Government of Japan has decided to extend a community empowerment grant aid, totaling 1.176 billion Yen (approximately USD 12 million), to the Palestinian Authority (PA), in order to support public activities in Jordan Valley in West Bank, including Area “C”. Notes to this effect was signed and exchanged on March 2, 2010 in Ramallah between Mr. Naofumi Hashimoto, Representative of Japan to the PA, and H.E. Dr. Salam Fayyad, Prime Minister\/Minister of Finance of the PA.<\/p><\/div>\n

2. With this grant, the Ministry of Local Government will implement 24 projects in coordination with all the stakeholders in local communities, namely, (a) 4 projects for upgrading public health clinics, (b) 5 projects for establishing and extending schools, (c) 7 community projects for building community centers, provision of one school bus and water tankers, (d) 4 projects for constructing and rehabilitating community roads, (e) 3 projects for electricity network rehabilitation and upgrading power supply capacity, and (f) 1 project for improvement of veterinary services.<\/p><\/div>\n

3. Through this grant assistance for these 24 projects, the Government of Japan intends to further support the peace-making efforts by H.E. President Dr. Mahmoud Abbas and the 13<\/span>th <\/span>Government Program to establish a viable independent Palestinian State under a two-state solution, with a focus on local community needs in social sectors, as well as particular attention on the strategic importance of the Jordan Valley.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

4. The Government of Japan has extended its official development assistance since 1993 a total amount of USD 1.05 billion to the Palestinian people, ranging from economic and social development to humanitarian assistance.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
