WEST BANK AND GAZA STRIP<\/strong><\/span> <\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

WHO, in coordination with MOH, UNRWA and OCHA, has been monitoring the health implications of the security situation in northern Gaza Strip, which has deteriorated significantly since 28 September. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Despite movement restrictions for male Palestinians aged 16 to 35 in northern Gaza Strip, the transportation of wounded to Shifa Hospital is possible. However, there are continuing concerns about the affected population's access to primary and secondary health care services. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Actions:<\/i> <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The MOH has supplied a list of 50 drugs in shortage for primary health care and emergencies on 2 October. WHO shared this list with international partners and has received initial positive feedback. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Discussion took place with USAID on the implementation of the WHO nutrition project. Agreement was reached on ways to secure optimal results through coordination and strategic support for the MOH nutrition department. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

WHO West Bank and Gaza staff met from 30 September to 4 October for an in-depth discussion on the role, goals, objectives and strategies of the WHO presence in West Bank and Gaza Strip and to plan for 2005. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Current WHO humanitarian actions in the West Bank and Gaza Strip have been made possible by 2004 funding from USAID, AGFUND, and the Government of Norway, as well as pre-2004 funding from ECHO.<\/p><\/div>\n
