OIC Secretary General meets HAMAS<\/p><\/div>\n

Professor Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu, Secretary-General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), received today, 14 March 2005, Mr. Khaled Meshal, Politburo Chief of the Islamic Resistance Movement, HAMAS, and his accompanying delegation. The two sides exchanged views on the developments related to the Palestinian cause, particularly after the legislative elections in Palestine and Israeli practices in the city of Al-Quds Al-Sharif aimed at altering its Arab-Islamic character and judaizing it.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Ihsanoglu reassured the visiting delegation of the OIC's immutable position on supporting the inalienable national rights of the Palestinian people, foremost among which is their right to establish their independent Palestinian State with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital. The Secretary-General also reaffirmed the need to respect the democratic choice of the Palestinian people as well as the need to continue providing them with international assistance. He called on the visiting delegation to deal realistically with international political exigencies so as to safeguard the security, national rights as well as already achieved gains of the Palestinian people.<\/p><\/div>\n
