Japan Helps Build Human Security in the West Bank and Gaza Strip;<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

Donates $ 1.3 Million to UNRWA<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Gaza – The Government of Japan, through the United Nations Trust Fund for Human Security, has announced a donation of $ 1,326, 600 to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

The funds will support three intervention programs meant to aid isolated and disenfranchised refugee communities in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

The first, an expansion of UNRWA’s current psychosocial program in the West Bank, will provide a team of mental health counselors based in community health clinics able to provide interventions for distressed children, adolescents and families.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

The second, a new education initiative to be launched in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, will provide remedial education for children who have experienced disruptions in school attendance. More than 50 teachers will be trained to implement remedial education courses in Arabic, mathematics and science.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

The third program, focusing on the rehabilitation of social infrastructure in the southern Gaza Strip, will fund the rebuilding of 19 demolished housing units in Rafah. Rehabilitation will include the construction and repair of sewage, water and electricity lines, and the paving of roads.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

This donation is part of a larger program of Japanese support entitled “Assistance for Isolated and Disenfranchised Communities in the Occupied Palestinian Territory”. Other United Nations agencies will be joining UNRWA’s efforts to support and protect Palestinian communities most at-risk.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

The Japanese Government’s contributions to UNRWA’s General Fund, Emergency Appeals and other projects in the past year amount to $30.1 million.<\/p><\/div>\n
