FOOD AID FROM TURKEY ARRIVES IN GAZA<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

The first shipment of Turkish wheat flour arrived in Gaza today, to feed more than 129,000 families supporting 687,000 dependents. The full in-kind donation of 12,500 metric tonnes of wheat flour worth USD 6.6 million, contributed by the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency of the Prime Ministry of the Republic of Turkey (AFAD), will arrive over the next eight weeks. <\/p><\/div>\n

“The Palestine refugees we serve are grateful for this generous donation”, said Filippo Grandi, Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA). The UN agency will accept the shipment and arrange distribution to the most vulnerable refugees living in Gaza. “The need for this aid is clear with food insecurity currently threatening 60 per cent of Gazans”, Grandi added.<\/p><\/div>\n

Since the tightening of the Israeli blockade on the Gaza Strip five years ago, unemployment has skyrocketed in the territory, as imports, exports, and job opportunities have slowed or come to a complete halt. Today, 34 per cent of Gazans are unemployed and 70 per cent of refugees are reliant on UNRWA aid.<\/p><\/div>\n

 <\/p><\/div>\n

“Turkey’s support for UNRWA is a reflection of our support for Palestine refugees, especially those living in the impoverished Gaza Strip”, said Ambassador Şakir Özkan Torunlar, Consul General of the Republic of Turkey in Jerusalem. “We are committed to aiding the international effort to help them achieve a decent standard of living despite the difficult circumstances under which they live.”<\/p><\/div>\n

In addition to in-kind contributions of food, Turkey is a significant financial supporter of UNRWA. Since 2009, the Turkish Government has more than doubled its contribution to the Agency, reaching an annual sum of USD 1.25 million in 2012. In addition to chairing the Working Group on the Financing of the UNRWA in New York, Turkey is also a member of the Advisory Commission comprising UNRWA’s major governmental supporters.<\/p><\/div>\n

وصلت الشحنة الأولى من دقيق القمح التركي اليوم إلى غزة وذلك ليتم توزيعها على 129,000 عائلة تقوم بإعالة 687,000 شخص؛ فيما من المقرر أن تصل خلال الأسابيع الثمانية القادمة كامل شحنات التبرع العيني البالغة كميته 12,500 طن متري من دقيق القمح بقيمة 6,6 مليون دولار والتي تم التبرع بها من قبل رئاسة إدارة الكوارث والطوارئ التابعة لرئاسة الوزراء في الجمهورية التركية.<\/p><\/div>\n

وأعرب فيليبو غراندي المفوض العام لوكالة الأمم المتحدة لإغاثة وتشغيل لاجئي فلسطين (الأونروا) عن شكره بالقول "إن لاجئي فلسطين الذين نقوم على خدمتهم ممتنون لهذا التبرع السخي". وستقوم الوكالة باستلام هذه الشحنة وترتيب عملية توزيعها للاجئين الأشد عرضة للمخاطر الذين يعيشون في غزة. وأضاف غراندي بالقول "إن الحاجة لهذه المساعدة تبدو جلية في الوقت الذي يهدد فيه انعدام الأمن الغذائي ما يصل إلى 60% من الغزيين".<\/p><\/div>\n

ومنذ تشديد الحصار الإسرائيلي على قطاع غزة قبل خمس سنوات، تصاعدت معدلا ت البطالة بشكل هائل في المنطقة وذلك مع انخفاض حجم الواردات والصادرات وفرص العمالة أو انقطاعها كليا. واليوم، فإن 34% من سكان غزة يعانون من البطالة فيما يعتمد 70% من اللاجئين على المساعدات التي تقدمها الأونروا.<\/p><\/div>\n

وفي معرض تعقيبه على هذا التبرع، قال السفير شاكر أوزكان تورونلار القنصل العام للجمهورية التركية في القدس بأن "المساعدات التركية للأونروا تأتي انعكاسا لدعمنا للاجئي فلسطين، وخصوصا أولئك الذين يعيشون في قطاع غزة الفقير"، مضيفا بقوله "إننا ملتزمون بتقديم المساعدة للجهود الدولية لمساعدتهم على تحقيق مستوى لائق من المعيشة بالرغم من الظروف الصعبة التي يعيشون في ظلها".<\/p><\/div>\n

وبالإضافة إلى التبرعات العينية الغذائية، تعد تركيا واحدة من المتبرعين الماليين الهامين للأونروا. ومنذ عام 2009، قدمت الحكومة التركية تبرعات للوكالة بمعدل أكثر من الضعف لتصل إلى ما مجموعه 1,25 مليون دولار سنويا في عام 2012. وإلى جانب ترؤسها لمجموعة العمل الخاصة بتمويل الأونروا في نيويورك، فإن تركيا أيضا عضو في اللجنة الاستشارية للوكالة والتي تتشكل من كبار المانحين الحكوميين للأونروا.<\/p><\/div>\n

الأونروا هي وكالة تابعة للأمم المتحدة قامت الجمعية العامة للأمم المتحدة بتأسيسها في عام 1949 وأسندت إليها مهام تقديم المساعدة والحماية لحوالي 5 ملايين لاجئ من فلسطين. وتقتضي مهام ولايتها بمساعدة لاجئي فلسطين في الأردن ولبنان وسورية والضفة الغربية وقطاع غزة لتحقيق كامل إمكاناتهم في مجال التنمية البشرية إلى أن يتم التوصل لحل لمحنتهم.<\/p><\/div>\n

وتشتمل خدمات الوكالة على التعليم والرعاية الصحية والإغاثة والخدمات الاجتماعية والبنية التحتية وتحسين المخيمات والإقراض الصغير والمساعدة الطارئة. ويتم تمويل الأونروا بالكامل تقريبا من خلال التبرعات الطوعية.<\/p><\/div>\n
