About the Lebanese legislative elections. <\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

We believe the legislative elections in Lebanon must be held as scheduled, that is in May. <\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

To postpone the election process would run counter to the changes now in progress and would not meet the demand for democracy which the Lebanese people have expressed in the past several weeks. <\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

Lebanese political forces must find ways to form a government whose first task will be to launch the electoral process. <\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

Now about the attacks in Lebanon: <\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

France condemns the acts that have taken place in the past few weeks which are intended to destabilize Lebanese society. <\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

The perpetrators, who endanger the aspirations of the Lebanese people for peace and freedom, must be sought out and prosecuted.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

It is the responsibility of everyone to help Lebanon preserve its stability. <\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

Q – About the mission to monitor Syria's withdrawal from Lebanon which was discussed by the UN envoy. Is the formation of this commission going to be attached to the resolution now being considered in the Security Council or will it be formed some other way independently of the text of the resolution?<\/i> <\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

The two things are different. The draft resolution presented in the Security Council concerns the establishment of the international commission of inquiry proposed by Mr. Fitzgerald. The draft resolution has been filed. It is being discussed. <\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

In the case of the Syrian withdrawal and Mr. Roed Larsen's mission, he is due to return to New York at the end of his mission and report to the secretary-general who will himself report to the Security Council. It's at that point that we'll see about the next step, in practical terms, after Mr. Roed Larsen's mission. <\/p><\/div>\n

Q – When is the secretary-general due to give his report, before the end of April or after?<\/i> <\/p><\/div>\n
