The United Nations Relief and Works Agency, UNRWA, has renewed its appeal for urgently needed emergency assistance in the impoverished Gaza Strip. The appeal for US$ 36 million comes amid protests against reductions in emergency activities that have already been caused by severe funding shortfalls, and against the backdrop of events elsewhere in the Arab world.<\/p><\/div>\n

 <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

“Our emergency programmes in Gaza, face a critical funding situation. These programmes are separate from the Agency’s regular education, health and relief activities, and are specifically tailored to address the most urgent humanitarian needs of the most vulnerable refugees in Gaza. We call on our donors and other stakeholders to respond to this appeal as an urgent priority,” said UNRWA spokesman, Chris Gunness.<\/p><\/div>\n

Of the US$ 36 million – US$ 11 million is required for creating temporary employment, US$ 16 million for food assistance, US$ 6 million for school feeding, and US$ 3 million will be spent on community mental health.<\/p><\/div>\n

 <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

“UNRWA fears that without a substantial injection of cash towards its emergency work in Gaza, food rations to hundreds of thousands of refugees, including children in UN schools, may be reduced in the coming months and community health programmes will be threatened, including psycho-social support to 25,000 children,” said Gunness.<\/p><\/div>\n

 <\/p><\/div>\n

“The implications of this for stakeholders in the Middle East region and also for the poorest of the poor in Gaza are far reaching and must be of deep concern to all of us. That is why we in UNRWA are working unstintingly to secure funds for these desperately needed programmes. It is an unfortunate reality that until the blockade is lifted in full, allowing Gaza’s economy to recover, there will continue to be a need for international humanitarian assistance to support the people of Gaza.”<\/p><\/div>\n

مناشدة عاجلة جديدة للأونروا من أجل برامج الطوارئ في غزة<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

القدس، 13 أيلول 2011<\/strong>: أعلنت وكالة الأمم المتحدة لإغاثة وتشغيل اللاجئين الفلسطينيين في الشرق الأدنى (الأونروا) عن تجديد مناشدتها للحصول على مساعدة طارئة وعاجلة للغاية من أجل قطاع غزة الذي يعاني من الفاقة. وتأتي هذه المناشدة التي تبلغ قيمتها 36 مليون دولار وسط احتجاجات على التخفيضات في أنشطة الطوارئ التي نتجت بالفعل بسبب النقص الحاد في التمويل وعلى خلفية الأحداث التي تدور رحاها في أماكن أخرى في العالم العربي.<\/p><\/div>\n

وقال سامي مشعشع الناطق الرسمي باسم الوكالة بأن "برامجنا الطارئة في غزة تواجه وضعا تمويليا حرجا. إن هذه البرامج منفصلة عن نشاطات الوكالة الاعتيادية في حقول التعليم والصحة والإغاثة، وهي مصممة خصيصا لمعالجة الاحتياجات الإنسانية الأكثر إلحاحا للاجئين الأشد عرضة للمخاطر في غزة. ونحن ندعو الجهات المانحة لنا والشركاء الآخرون بأن يستجيبوا لهذه المناشدة باعتبارها أولوية ملحة".<\/p><\/div>\n

ومن أصل الملايين المرصودة في هذه المناشدة، تم تخصيص 11 مليون دولار من أجل استحداث وظائف مؤقتة، فيما رصد 16 مليون دولار للمساعدة الغذائية وستة ملايين من أجل برنامج التغذية المدرسي، فيما سيتم إنفاق ثلاثة ملايين على الصحة العقلية المجتمعية.<\/p><\/div>\n

ويضيف مشعشع بالقول "تخشى الأونروا من أنه وبدون ضخ الكثير من الأموال من أجل عملها الطارئ في غزة، فإن الحصص الغذائية لمئات الآلاف من اللاجئين، بما في ذلك الأطفال الذين يدرسون في مدارس الأمم المتحدة، سيتم تقليصها في الأشهر القادمة ومن أن برامج الصحة العقلية المجتمعية ستصبح مهددة، بما في ذلك الدعم النفسي الاجتماعي لما مجموعه 25,000 طفل".<\/p><\/div>\n

"إن الآثار المترتبة على هذا الأمر بالنسبة للشركاء في منطقة الشرق الأوسط وأيضا بالنسبة للأشخاص الأشد فقرا في غزة ستكون بعيدة المدى وينبغي أن تكون مصدر قلق عميق لنا جميعا. إن هذا هو السبب الذي يجعلنا في الأونروا نعمل بدون كلل من أجل تأمين الأموال لتلك البرامج التي هي بأمس الحاجة لها. إنه لواقع مؤلم بأنه، وإلى أن يتم رفع الحصار بالكامل والسماح لاقتصاد غزة بالانتعاش، سيظل هناك حاجة للمساعدة الإنسانية الدولية من أجل مساندة شعب غزة".<\/p><\/div>\n

تقدم وكالة الأمم المتحدة لإغاثة وتشغيل اللاجئين الفلسطينيين في الشرق الأدنى (الأونروا) المساعدة والحماية وكسب التأييد لحوالي 4,8 مليون لاجئ من فلسطين مسجلين لديها في الأردن ولبنان وسورية والأراضي الفلسطينية المحتلة وذلك إلى أن يتم التوصل لحل لمحنتهم. وتشتمل خدمات الوكالة على التعليم والرعاية الصحية وشبكة الأمان الاجتماعي والبنية التحتية وتحسين المخيمات والدعم المجتمعي والإقراض الصغير والاستجابة الطارئة بما في ذلك في أوقات النزاعات المسلحة.<\/p><\/div>\n
